Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
Thanks. I need all the confidence I can get. I hope the body comes out sharp now I have timed to learn how to adjust the guns and myself to using them. It is looking real good in person, the metallic really pops. I cant wait till its all dry and I cut it down real smooth like glass. The good thing about this metallic red is it hides blemishes real well, so its great for a beginner like myself!

I sure hope you don't get panels looking different since you're spraying it bit by bit. The metallic will lay different in different temperatures and gun settings.

that looks pretty darn good. Mine is a 10 year old garage paint job, of course if you see it inperson the car looks worse, but its looks good from far, but far from good looking

Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
I have 2 guns, one for the primer, and one for base/clear. my paint cans suggested the same size tip for base/clear so im using same gun for that.
I did not buff or sand before the clear as it was advised against doing that by multiple research sites and manufacture-of-paint recommendations.
I will need to sand/buff the clear. Im afraid of that part, I hear 2k then 3k wet on the clear followed by a polishing compound on a buffer does the trick. anyone have more input on this?

I started with 1k went to 1.5, then 2 then 3k. You'll understand why when you start trying to start off with 2k. It'll take forever. But that depend on how smooth you want it.
Now I had my car professionally buffed. I didn't want to try to do that. To much chance for error and ruining a good paint job. It was worth the $300 in my eyes.

Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
Can't wetsand a metallic base, it'll look funky unless you dust on another coat to get everything looking even again. I've never had to do it, never have seen anyone else do it. The clear for the paint system I use is ready to go on about the time I have the gun cleaned, the clear mixed and ready to pour in the cup.

That explains why it was recommended to NOT sand the base.

An old high school friend of mine runs a paint shop in Stockton now, I am going to see some of his work soon. That'll be my next paint source. (or maybe just rent his boothe) I will see

Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
Lots of orangepeel, yes. I will have to learn to get that out. Paint jobs not perfect but its better then primer. My first coat had some runs in it which pissed me off, almost made me give up. I sanded them out the best I could then proceeded to paint. I did not have enough materials to go back to primer and start over.
In time, I will get around to ordering more paint and doing some touch up.
The hood needs to be redone, I will probably do that next week.

Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
If there's enough clear on it, he'll be able to get it all out and look like glass Kinda looks like mine did when I used the wrong hardener, was a hot freakin day and the clear didn't flow out. Cleared some other parts on a nice cool night and didn't even have to buff the parts out everything came out so nice.

I am honored to be an inspiration to others out there, I did all this work myself, whether its perfect or not, I know its mine, it can be perfected upon, it only takes practice. you can do it to, it only takes motivation and inspiration to do it, the end result is so much more then handing over cash and seeing results. Watch "love the beast" and you will understand it even more.

Nice job. That short stint in the body shop you did paid off. Not everyone's had that pleasure. I'll gladly hand over cash, haa.
I think the black ZR1 rims you had would've looked good with it too.

Re: TraviZ's iroc reconstruction thread.
I am going to repaint the hood next week, it doesnt pop as well as the rest of the car. I messed up on the primer process. Now I know how to fix it the second time around.
Also in time I think I want to go back and re do the drivers door, and other various touch ups. In person you will see why.

Much better with the FX. I'm sure from 20ft, the paint looks sweet.
Nix that tan interior for the black and it'll be even better.
Always nice to see your pride in the 3rd gen.

Looks good. I had Maaco paint mine a couple months ago, it looks great, it has some orange peel on it too, but I say no one sees orange peel at 150.

Yeah my paint job was never perfect either but for me a daily driver i never wanted a 5k paint job.
its look pretty good. I can see what your talking about in the photos. Still way better than primer.
