LT's will be fun... My focus with the Formula at this point is to finish it. I think I will sell my 5.0 so I can build a quick DD Ls1 Thirdgen.

Re: Project Winter Storm
I thought about dropping an ls1 in the 5.0, but they are just way to squirly and handling sucks... I still might though. My Formula weighed in at 3285ish, and the stock stang w/ auto weighed in at 3310 with spare tire and everything... So the stang has the weight advantage, and the strong rearend to support everything. So it's kinda a toss up. I will prob get another thirdgen to do it in though..

Re: Project Winter Storm
Ok car is still not cooling down like it should. I lifted the front of the car way up. Upper rad hose is getting hot. I replaced the 18psi rad cap with my old 16psi. Went for a drive and the temp just stayed at 214 the whole trip. Came back home. Shut the car off. Let it cool down. turned her back on. Seemed like it was working. Let it reach 220 then it cooled off to 190. Let it reach 220 again and then it started cooling down then stopped at 192 then started climbing again and stopped at 199. Im thinking its a stuck T-stat. I dont think i ever replaced it. What you guys think?

Sounds normal to me, my moms vette runs at 200 all day. It will get to 220 in heavy traffic. What temp T-stat do you have? what are your fans set to come on at?

You think so bro. My fans are set to come on at 220 and shut off at 190. But the fans never shut off. The temp will get to 192 before the fans can shut off then start climbing hot again. And this is at idle

Re: Project Winter Storm
It sounds like it may be normal, but not the normal as it was acting for you before.
Perhaps your newly installed A/C may have altered it a bit, if nothing has changed in functionality with your t-stat/waterpump.
Check out this thread relating to the a/c, specifically post #15.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-fan-temp.html
Factory fan settings approx: Low fan is about 226F and high is about 234F. Your tuner obviously modified this though.

Re: Project Winter Storm
I don't think the ac would cause this. I mean for the car to stay at 214 while driving is hot. Plus the lower tad hose is warm. Your right Travis, I'm going to replace it. The motor has been sitting since Jan. And I never replaced the t-stat since i had the motor. I will let you guys know here in a couple of hrs

Enjoy that 2 years before the next smog! haha.
Yeah, I think it's just the new a/c setup man. When you have it tuned, have him just adjust them again.

Joey didnt you have some coolant passage blocked off or something? I remember you sendind stuff to Western for repairs...That could affect it too.

Re: Project Winter Storm
Joey you may need to put the extra coolers down low sitting flat like we did on Kevin's car, we used all steel lines to be safe.

Ok got another update on the car. The car passed smog. I installed the Long tubes tonight. The car is going to the exhaust shop tomorrow. Not sure how long it will stay there. I hope only for a day. Here are some pictures of some of the exhaust parts
Exhaust parts: Flowmaster Y, Magnaflow cats, O2 bung, 3.5" to 3" reducer, and exhaust clamps
Flowmaster Y (Smooth Transition)
And a shot from under the car
Ill let you guys know more once i get her over there tomorrow morning

That's going to be a nice setup son! The Magnaflow cats look very flowy, haha.
What's the rest of the exhaust (muffler) and which shop did you decide on?

Heck yes I am. Joey will see a major improvement. LS1's love the LT mod, plus a nice exhaust.
My change to SD from MAF might set me backwards, who knows, haha.

HAHA Anthony
Im guessing this will take off 2tenths off my 12.7 time. other seem to disagree and think it will be faster but who knows. Ill be happy with a 12.5 car. I got an update on the car. I will post pictures soon
Oh Del, i was going to take it to Marc's but i just dont have the time right now. Ive been working like crazy. So my pops took it over to Nor cal muffler. They guy there is the only one (besides Marc) that would work with me on this. He had to pull the passenger header off and tweak the collector. You will see in the pictures

Re: Project Winter Storm
So my dad sent me some pictures of the install
This is before the passenger header was adjusted
After...
Driver side (tranny cable was also adjusted for more clearance)
And the Y is going up
Looks like he had to take out my cutout in order to fit in the Y. But its going to go back in. The way this guy is moving, he might have it done by today That gives me enough time to get it tuned tomorrow and make some HP

Re: Project Winter Storm
why run cats? Its already smogged, you dont drive it every day, and your gonna have to take it all off in 2 years anyway.
I'd run with not cats, 3.5" pipe to a muffler.

I no longer have to smog my formy... It is registered to a small county that doesn't require smog...

What muffler setup is your 3" pipe going into Joey? Did I miss that part.
It is kinda perplexing that you got the non-CA legal cats to go with the LT's, just to have something visual in case you get pulled over or what?

Re: Project Winter Storm
what did you have open cut outs on? Like what was the rest of the exhaust set up? Also what was the mph difference between the pass that the exhaust was open and the exhaust was closed? Did the test the same day I hope.
I'm not trying to bust your *****, i'm just saying if you have a good flowing exhaust you should notice no difference between the system open or closed. Your car obviously, if you want cut outs go for it. If it were me and I was stuck on buying a cut out i'd buy a 3.5" cut out and stick it after the Y and then reduce it as much as you want. Kinda defeats the purpose of having 3" collectors if they're going into a single 3" system. Know what i mean?

Re: Project Winter Storm
the cats are CA legal a few years ago, and it will still pass the sniffer no problem. Just not the visual. So it makes the smog guys job a little easier and mine as well.
The reason behind the Cutout is because i have a slowmaster (flowmaster for those who dont get it) as my muffler. I got it awhile back. I love the way the car sounds with it. I know i could of gotten a newer muffler for a cheaper price but heck, I love the way the car sounds with it open. Im a gadget type of guy. And this gives me one more toy to show off. I was running 12.8 with the cutout closed and then it went down to 12.7 flat with it open. So i think it makes a difference. I mean in the drag world, any MPH or ET makes a difference. Oh and i used to run 107mph with it closed and and now its 109mph open.
and i can always upgrade in the future. Just funds are running low right now. My plan is to put in a 4" Y of just get a new muffler all together. I think money is the main thing right now

Re: Project Winter Storm
I did not see any 1/4 mile improvements with my cutout. But I see better fuel mileage with it open crusing down the highway. But I also have a dynomax ultraflo which is the higher end of flowing mufflers. my car is pretty quiet and I just like being able to go to mean with the flip of a switch haha.
