Bought my cylinder heads today

I got the Dart Pro 1 heads. 230 runner size 64cc chamber. They are putting the steam holes in where I bought them. They also have the block to clearnace it for the 6.0" rods.

I have a lot to be thankful for.

Don't tell anyone I squeal when I get excited

When you get them mocked up on the motor, let me know what kind of problems (if any) you have. I'm just curious if they are a direct bolt on, or if the valves are offset, etc. It's gonna be 400 or more cubes, right? I'm thinking now maybe those were the ones I should have gotten. They would have been a heck of alot cheaper than the ones I just got. I had the 215's on a 355 sbc and they were awesome compared to some heavily ported 2.02 castings. The 230's on a 400+ sbc would be just about right for a 7000+ RPM sbc. Good luck with that project.

I am not sure what to do next. I have the heads the rotating assembly and the block. None of it is put together. I had the block clearanced for the rods. My guess is the valvetrain is next, but if I need to "mock up" first I would like to know more about that.

It is a 400 block. The guy at the shop says I may not see 7000 - maybe 6800. I guess that's close enough.

How do you wash the shavings off of the heads? And is there some sort of clearcoat I can use to keep the outside shiny?

How do you put a block on an engine stand without the heads and intake on it?

Most engine stands bolt into the bellhousing bolt holes on the block. You don't need the heads on.

How do I get the block off the floor? I lifted it off of the stand with my hoist and bent some bolts on the process to put it in my trunk. Since then I have lifted it into and out of my trunk by hand. Where should I put the bolts to lift it off of the floor and position it to fit onto the stand?

Before you lift it up, attach the bell housing mounting potion of the stand to the block so that once you get it up, you can just slide the block and mount into the stand. If you're not confident lifting it by hand with a friend on each side, use a small length of chain with a hook on one end. Put a bolt through the chain link (on the end without the hook) and insert it into the water pump mounting hole in the front Don't use a really long 6"or longer bolt. Use a bolt that goes all the way into the hole (Check to see if you are going into a blind hole -one that bottoms out- or if the hole goes straight through into a water jacket-You don't want to crack a cylinder by over tightening a bolt that is too long for the hole) but yet is short enough to snug up the chain. Wrap the other end around one of the top mounting arms in the back of the block and hook the chain back to itself. That should do the trick. When I was younger, I would bear hug the block and shove it onto the stand. This can be hard on the back. I really recommend getting help from a friend! That's probably the safest and easiest way!
