Who here uses Walmart oil?

I'll admit to it.

I think I'm running it in everything actually.

Its very cheap, I'm still only paying like $15 a case.(hey u laugh, but if u had a saturn you would understang needing a cheap source of oil lol)

Also, before I began using it almost exclusively since the wonderful oil prices we have nowadays, I investigated it thouroughly. So I feel safe in using it.

bobistheoilguy.com is a great site for information on oil, both regular and synthetic, as well as information on the add packs that they add to oil to give it its specific properties. Quite a few guys there are chemical engineers for oil companies or equivelant fileds and actually test the stuff out.

The Walmart stuff is actually a good base to begin with and uses one of the best add packs out there for regular oil.

Who would have thought, and its one of the cheapest available too.

Supposedly its the same for their oil filters as well, although I have never tried them

Its one of the few things I buy from Walmart, I dont try to buy anything from there.

Also I'm sure someone is gonna chime in about synthetics and unless your talking Mobil 1, Red Line, AmsOil or Royal Purple your getting pasted :-)

hmmm the other day i used some "autozone" brand straight 30 w oil in my motor for break-in, the comp tech told me to use it. who would have known. i'll have to find some walmart stuff, since i change my oil regularly on several of my cars, and after 180k on one motor, with no synthetic in it from day one, i'd say i got my money's worth out of the engine and then some.

Walmart oil

I wouldn't even put it in my lawn mower.

Now all things being equal many of the lower name brands are just a packaging gimmick of the better known brands, and usually not up to the higher brand standards, but I don't know aobut this one. Anyplace that tried to pawn off 3 day old fuzzy hot dogs in the cafe' selling engine oil, the life blood of the motor,

Actually in the US Walmart oil is not re-used oil. Has something to do with Canada's dumb laws and recycled content in products.

It is new and actually ranks nicely when compared to other conventional oils.

Hey I'm not a CE, I just listen to them when I need info I cant attain on my own.

Knock it if u want or call me full of it, anyone who knows me, knows I can back what I speak and if I dont know I find out first.

I havent seen any re refined oil around in years. Was a few stations around Joliet area years ago(Hauck Oil) that carried it.Was about 15cents a qt.(1970s era)

If you are breaking in a new cam,you might want to hunt around for some Rotella T or Valvoline racing oil. Regular oils are low on Zinc, a property that helps in cam break in.

walmart oil killed the 5mge in my toyota supra. i changed the oil (i thought, yea its all the same stuff) and decided to try it. about a week later a rod bearing had spun. never had any problems with the name brand stuff i was using, i was even running a larger oil filter then stock.

i guess that showed me will never use it again.

btw, for lawn mower oil, i use the synthetic oil out of the engine after the oil change. works good for the briggs, lol.

just my experience with it.

btw, you are not using that crap in your tta are you?

thanks

hard to believe any SAE API etc oil would cause you to spin a bearing unless you were low on oil or waited too long to change it....

did you compensate for the bigger oil filter? maybe it took too long to filter though such a big fliter and you shouldve put on a bigger oil pump.

how many miles on that supra? any rust on it?

yes, added extra oil for the bigger oil filter, its just happened too close the the oil change for me to trust their oil. i have heard of other people having simler problems with it.

i would rather pay an extra couple of buck now then pay big bucks later.

Get real analysis done and see who it stacks up to some "name brand" oil.

I'll take my chances.

Oil changes dont kill bearings.

Heres another on everyone will hate.

I would use recycled oil without batting an eye provided I had real test results.

There is no harm in using recycled oil, some are equal to or better than name brands. Finding one that is however is the hard part.

Recycled is actually a lot cheaper to re refine and get the impurities out of than it is to make it from "virgin" stock.

Once you add in the appropriate junk, after its filtered/cleaned, its as good as new.

Walmart gets that Super Tech from Quaker State.

I know because my buddy in Taylorville used to manage a Speed Lube shop. They have a good contract with QS.

My friend was asking the QS rep about how Walmart could do oil changes for ~$15.00. The rep told him they buy private label oil in mass quantities from Quaker State. Every 55 gal drum they have is ST/QS oil. What they don't have in drums, they bottle themselves.

you should ask him how long walmart has been using the qs oil. i had my issues with it around 4 years ago.

i know an "OIL CHANGE" will not cause a bearing failure, but if the oil is not right , the oil can. i remember the oil didn't smell right and it was not cleanest looking oil i had seen.

oh well, thats in the past, and they might have better oil now, but i still have my past experiences with it in the back of my head.

Actually, that was about 3 yrs ago that I'd talked to him about that. And he'd been working there for ~2yrs before that. Say 4-5 yrs ago.

Wow

Well Im quite impressed with how dumb some thoughts are on this site. Oil is Oil and the cheapest stuff works great no problems. Key is changing your oil when you are supposed to which most dont. Change it every 3months or 3000miles and you wont have problems. No big deal, And recycled oil is much cheaper to refine and cleaner than crude being refined believe it or not guys. Just my 2 cents

lol

Heres a good one about QS and PZ.

About 10 years ago they had massive lawsuits in the upper states due to the crappy pariffin waxes in their oil and literally sludging up in temps below freezing :-)

They have since reformulated, but just cause its a "brand" name doesnt mean it doenst have its own issues.

I'm too tired to get into it right now but at school they explained exactly how Wal-Mart's oil is the best on the market right now. If anyone insists on knowing more I'll go dig up my Engine Management Systems I book.

I have a friend who sells oil for a major dist. and all their tests say penz, QS,and havoline are the worst name brand oils u can use. the top ranked was valvoline ( not his brand ) followed closely by ammoco ( his brand )the tests took oil life, cooling, and cleanlyness into cosideration. I was shown these test results about 6 years ago so it could be different now. I know some nascar people and they said when dale jarrett was sponsered by havoline they ran valvoline.
