Quick Helmet Question.
hey guys,
i am looking at picking up a helmet (13's here i come!!!!) my question is this. in looking at helmets it seems that the M00 helmets are cheaper, but have a nylon inner liner, whereas the SA00 helmets have a nomax liner. i found this on the NHRA website
they list the m85 - 95 helmets on that list (m00 would be above those ratings) so would i be ok to run 13's with a nylon lined helmet, or would i need to spend the money to get a nomax lined helmet?
thanks for the help
John

A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95 or K98 specifications. Professional category and some alcohol burning vehicles require an SA rated helmet. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. The designation stenciled on the exterior of the helmet is insufficient for NHRA technical inspection. Also, some tracks require a helmet on ALL drivers, so check in advance.
thanks for the help
John

Even prostock cars only require an M rated helmet and it doesn't need to be a full face. SA rated, although it's a better race helmet, is only required for special classes.
Save your money and buy a Snell rated M2000 open face helmet. Typical price is in the $80-$100 range.
www.smf.org has all the information on the helmet ratings.
