launch suggestions?

I need some advice for launching my car. Since I got the shift kit and pulleys the car really roasts the tires from a dig and into 2nd. I'm going to wait till I get my sub frame in next week before I practice. I heard you get even worse traction after the subframe is in,is this true. I have to learn the car all over again. I use to launch off idle. One foot on the brake and one on the gas down in D and then mash. If I brake torqued it , it spins like crazy. I might have to go to a feathered launch? I have firestone firehawks on the car, they seem a little too hard, any suggestions?

with ur torque and gears, sounds like u might need some drag radials to help some things out.

leave it in drive, and try to ease into, practice with tire pressure and gas. ur car might respond better to launching off idle.
subframe connectors add just alittle weight and they are well worth it to help the frame keep straight and from cracking.

That's the trouble with the 700R4 tranny. It's a great street tranny but the first gear is too low and the extra torque multiplication can easily overpower the tires. The gear spread between first and second is also too far apart. When you shift to second, the rpms drop down below the powerband and the engine has to build back up to where it makes the best power.

The best thing to increase traction is some slicks. The tires need to be sticky to hook up. You can't heat up a street tire. They're designed not to heat up. High speed highway driving will heat up a tire and that's dangerous so they're made not to. When you do a burnout in the water box with a street tire it just wears the rubber off and makes the tires slippery. A slick is designed to heat up and get sticky after a burnout.

the way i used to launch my 11 second 80 z28 on 235 60 15 firehawk radials was to tack it up to about 3000 rpm, when i launched i just took my foot off of brake. i did not get into gas until car started to hook ,then gradually put pedal to floor. took to almost half track before i had pedal to the floor. this is what worked best for me on firehawk radials. stickier tires is what you really need

Thanks guys, I was thinking about Nitto's on the back that way I can drive on the street with them too. I heard that they pick up alot of stones though, due to being so sticky. I don't want to wreck my paint kicking up stones. Anyone have experience with nittos? I also have the march power and amp series pulleys on my car and am having charging trouble at night with the head lights on. Its fine during the day with the stereo on, but at night the gage dips a little low. I guess I'll have to brake torque it in stop and go driving at night? any suggestions for this? I don't have a stereo amp in the car, just a 200w face off. Thanks.
