New to the forums

Hi all. I have been reading articles and posts on here for years and finally signed up. I'm a PNW guy. I'm going to be doing a full restoration of my IROC this winter. I will try and get pictures up to show start to finish.

Re: New to the forums

The car has been sitting for about 15 years and I have a lot of work to do. A little back story... I bought the car in 1999 when I was a senior in HS. I drove if for several years and slowly did some upgrades. The engine was new and the transmission. I put a new Moser 12-bolt in the rear. It had a GM Haltech ECM and MSD, headers, 3" exhaust, rv cam, ported intake w/ 48 MM throttle body. Basic upgrades. When I had the shop put the 12-bolt in they did not do it right and I was dealing with that when I got deployed to Iraq again and was out of the country for close to two years. I came home and the car was broken into, my T-top seals were trashed and my Haltech was stolen. I never got her running and she sat... for years. I am now putting her in the garage and making her a priority. This is how she currently sits.

Re: New to the forums

When the motor was rebuilt I wanted a vortec and that was what the guys at Shucks said they were getting me. I was young, I did not have internet access in 1999 and thought that was what I got. I have the original order sheet from it and it even says it was a vortec 350. Long story short, it's not. I popped the valve cover and it has L05 193 swirl port heads. These heads have half the intake bowl blocked by a ramp and flow less than the factory L98 heads. So I am building a new motor to go with the resto project. My short block is currently finished and I am waiting for my heads from the porter.

The block is s a Dart little M sportsman w/ a 4.125 bore. I went with a Callie's 4" crank and 6" rods. Howards pistons with -22 CC inverted domes. That gest me a grand total of 427 inches. I'm waiting on my heads from the head porter, they are 210 CC AFR eliminators ported to 230 CC and the intake valves increased to 2.10. My short block should be arriving tomorrow and I'll try to get some pictures of it up. I am excited after all these years to finally get the car going again.

Welcome to TGO! Sounds like an exciting project. If you have Facebook, the NW Third Gens group is a good one to join for news about local meetups and shows.
