HELP.. exhaust single bbs turbo???

I CAN"T WELD!

I have a 90 GTA and spent saturday putting my turbo on. i was planning on taking the whole month to do it but it went much faster than i thought.

i put on the 2bar map and got the vehicle to run well again(gen7). I got the hvac box out, the ac compressor off, cut the bracket, figured a new way to run the belt. got the cold pipe run the way i want it, was very happy....

here's where i need help. I need to make the cross over pipe and down pipe. i just got under the car today and the stock pipe is UGLY bent crinkled and flat.

I'm using the stock manifold on the drivers side. can i use the stock pipe cut it and make it work? what would you do? what kind of material?

Down pipe... I have borlas exhaust and its 3' from tail pipe to about a foot behind the cat.. stupid! so i have a 2-2.5" restriction anyway and don't know if i can afford to do the whole pipe 3" to the borla (i know short cutting. money got a bit tight on the project) what kind of material and what size would u go.

Wastegate... the wastegate exits down just under where the smog pump would be. subframe is in the way. I don't want to vent it to the atmosphere. any suggestions.

I really apreciate the help and have learned something from all of you over the years.

thanks

Re: HELP.. exhaust single bbs turbo???

Hope this helps.. my turbo system, with the exception of the turbo log, is all aluminumized exhaust tubing. I used 3" mandrel elbows (about $20 each) all the way from the turbo to the cat. It seems like I used five pieces, maybe six to build it and got them from a local truck parts supply company.

For the wastegate, if it's fairly close to the down pipe, you can probably get away with a single piece of 1.5" U-J pipe (cut and weld as needed): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0018086WA/...A&linkCode=asn

Now about that welding problem... you really need to find a friend with a welder and chopsaw!

Re: HELP.. exhaust single bbs turbo???

Another thought of how you can pull this off.. buy a used chopsaw at a local pawn shop, should be under $100.

Cut the first two pieces of tubing and mark them with a permanent marker when you got them positioned correctly. I always mark them in several places to line up the joints, but use un-even spacing for the lines so they only line up in the correct rotation. Then find that friend or even a local exhaust shop and have them just tack the pieces together in three spots. Go back home and cut the next piece of tubing and so on. Be sure to use some V-Band or 2 bolt flat flanges along the way to make maintenance easier.

The worst thing will be getting the flanges right. The really need to be tacked while on the car. You might consider slip joints instead for the downpipe.

My crossover tube is all in one piece from the driver side manifold to the turbo log. Check my site for pics of my setup!

Re: HELP.. exhaust single bbs turbo???

thanks,, i've been to your site, very nice. that helps alot, i had in my head SS but now i'm thinking alumnized and i'll be good, if something fails maybe i'll do stainless later. I called my local muffler shop and they said they could do it. They thought under $300 which is well worth it for me. hopefully get it tow'd down later this week and be up and running next week.
