For you LS1 vs SBC guys, first call out has been made. Will be racing a '99 LS1 Corvette with stalled automatic running a Paxton-Novi Supercharger both installed and tuned by ESC (East Coast Superchargers), running 10-psi of boost. Not sure what I will be running just yet as I need to dial in the tune again (probably 15-psi), but it should be fun. Corvette owner also runs a nine second Buick T-Type, pretty quick car...

Re: Chronicles of a 9 Second 305 Trans Am...
Murph will be coming up to Englishtown Raceway Park to run me on a Wednesday night, we're going there tomorrow night for a few shake down runs but I am far from tuned though and still need to dial it all in. His was dyno tuned by ESC and is ready to go. Will throw up some videos tomorrow night of his shake down runs too, but we'll both be holding back until we run of course. I have an "idea" of what he traps, but then again he could also be talking smack with the mph he quoted cuz there might be money on the line. Will keep this thread posted way in advance before it goes down...

This thread is awesome! once i get my GTA dialed in NA wise, i want to go turbo. i got a MAF car though, so we'll see how that goes. that EBL is pretty sweet too!

Re: Chronicles of a 9 Second 305 Trans Am...
We usually go with about 10 to 15 guys when we run, and everyone brings their own camera, so we'll have plenty of coverage. Tonight looks like rain though, gotta give the track a call by three this afternoon for them to confirm if they are opening or not. Couldn't resist the offer to take a ride in Murph's Supercharged Corvette that day, as I wanted to get a feel for how much boost I will need to beat him. His car is very very fast, bottom to mid range is very brutal and harsh, then it just pulls up top. Gonna be a very tough race. His damn blow off valve was already dumping at 2000-RPM...

Re: Chronicles of a 9 Second 305 Trans Am...
Just to add to this thread a correction, what happened was when the distributor was removed to install the braided oil feed line, I put it back in by eye in which I thought was on the money, but it wasn't. Let that be a lesson kiddies, never set your timing by eye, or by ear, I don't care how good someone says they are with engine sound, do it right the first time with a timing light. Damn timing was reading 4 degrees retarded (EST disconnected), when it should have been 12 degrees advanced. It's all good now...
Good thing it wasn't advanced that much ... Tha motor prolly woulda been a goner with and moderate acceleration ...

I wanted a 48mm wastegate, but settled for a 44mm unit offered from the same company that makes the turbo charger, it is positioned behind the turbo with the top of the unit facing the firewall, and the exhaust dump heading straight up to the downpipe, this way I will have ease of access when swapping wastegate springs. A compact setup as well as easy access was the goal from the very beginning...

just be aware that the valve on thos ecompact units does not open as far as on the full sized unit, just something to keep in mind if u have trouble controlling boost with it

A 3.8 VR38DETT found in the GTR has six 3.76" bores...
A 5.0 LB9 found in the GTA has eight 3.736" bores...
... those two extra cylinders makes a tremendous difference with boost, despite the cylinder head difference. The heads only need to flow "good" when it comes to boost, but enough of my rant, the proof will be in what you see not what is parroted and said by others.

Boost will help make up for head deficiencies tho, for the most part. Crank it up and make power. Ash on TTF made 1014 with a 355 sbc on stockish 882 castings, but hes on alcohol. Just needed 24 psi

Wastegate is in, have the dump facing downward because the last thing you want is for it to be facing upward while collecting water. Once the downpipe is in it will then connect via a 1 3/4" tube using the same type of flanges for ease of installation. By the way, it's a good thing I checked the spring tension, as their "five" pound spring didn't crack open until fifteen pounds. Luckily my buddy Paul had a five pound spring for me lying around the shop...

How did it do against the Corvette?
Why did you have to re-tune so much after putting on the turbo? Usually, tune it NA, then put the turbo on and tune boost.
This original build started in 2009/2010 and hasn't run yet. Can't wait to see the numbers it runs.
