Your not the only third-gen, just the only that had theirs present!

The LT1 ran 14.78-15.0 all night.

Going to try my BFG drag radials.
I will be in the '94 again (sorry drummerdad the '91 is not as fast, atleast yet anyway).
May be a couple of weeks before I make it back.

Maybe cruise to Elizabethton again saturday?????
(in the '91 of course)

OK. Good. The 91 will axles will fit mine. 89 or older won't. Did you get a price? Thanks.

Oh, I (said it before) go Thursday, but DrummerDad, I would love to run you. Same engine, transmission - should be fun. Let me know whether you want to go Tuesday or Thursday and I will ask off. I will be there Saturday. If you want to meet up, I'll PM you my cell number and we will have an easier time of meeting up. If not, just look for the tall, skinny red head in the car pictured above. (the Camaro, not the Interceptor. well, at least I hope not...) This time, I'll clean the interior and park in the show and try to save a spot or two.

Hey, if the 91 Z28 is too slow, I'll be glad to take it.

Oh, Catfootball, I'm sure eveeryone is as eager to meet you as you are us, but not at the Funeral Home. Try it with the brakes, please.

Have not got a price yet.
Will have to let him start his tearing it down before he will price it.

Yea, the '91 is a little too slow with the LB9 and auto.
If it was my old '91 (which I want back ding dang it!) that had the LB9, T-5, G92, I would not have any problems.
She was a freak. Ran awesome.
No offense to anyone, but the auto doesn't cut it with me.
Thats why I run the '94 all the time and rarely the '91.
Although I will be autocrossing the '91 in Bowling Green.

Can't let you have her.
I got way too much $$$$$ tied up in her. Probably x what she is worth.
Someone would have to want her VERY VERY BAD.
She would be for sale for the right $$$.
Plus my 3 year old daughter calls it her car.
That is a great feeling.

I understand. I am not a fan of the auto myself. That is why I plan to swap to a T56.
I know what you mean about money. I seem to spend endlessly on mine. I know you wouldn't let me have her, but I might be interested in buying it.

Do you think he could be talked into saling the engine from that TPI Z28? You said it was 5.7, right? 170 vs 245 hp. 250 vs 350 tq. Yes, that and the 3.23 will be better than now. Although, an LS1 ot LT1 would be much better than that.

Hey, I had an idea. You guys know the Elizabethton High School parking lot? I wonder if they would object to a few timed trials on that driving course after school is out? I may ask my brother about the legality of it. May convince him to try the Interceptor (cop car).

He will not sell the motor. He is going to use it in his '60 Impala. That is the reason he bought the Iroc.
Doubl they would let you use their course for liability issues.

I didn't mean we would ask them. I just was going to ask if we would get in trouble. Naw, I doubt so, too. It might be worth it to try, though....

Just no way to make it tonight. Ill try again next tuesday, or thursday, whenever you guys decide to try again. And If Im not the only 3rd gen., I might make a few passes. Not many, though. I figure I can at least beat some of the minute r!ce. We saw a couple of 17s this week. I think I can manage that. And I have a lead on an LT-1 for under a grand. A friend at work said he will help rebuild/install it, if I can swing it in the spring. I may have to wait on the paint.

Hey, 91_5.7_tpi,
I just realized that you were asking the year of the parts car Iroc not my Z28. The parts car is a '89. Sorry about that.
I think my friend has a spare set of axles though.

No racing next week for me. Have a meeting tuesday night and will either be gone to Bowling Green on thursday or getting ready to leave for friday morning.

Plan on going to Elizabethton on Saturday. May be there around 5-6ish? What time were you looking to head out and where should we try to meet up?

If he does not have a spare set of axles, it may be hard for me to use the rear end. They changed from a 26 to a 28 spline axle in 90.

I'll probably be able to leave any time Saturday. I just have to clean the interior. It has grown leaves. We could meet at Ingles about 5:30 - 6:00 or whenever you want. I know planning with kids isn't as easy as me just getting in the car and driving, so just let me know. But I'll wait at Ingles, if that sounds good to you.

Cool, doesnt matter to me. I havent raced this car. And It is bone stock, down to the air cleaner and smog. Should be rather boring. Whatever day you guys want to get together. Also we need to pick a place to actually meet this time. Maybe next to the traps and lights, where we were last time, or something. I just need a day or two notice. I will only make a couple passes. I dont want to push my luck. Its my daily driver.

I can go whenever you guys decide to go. Or, I will pick a day or whatever. Just get Catfootball to let us know when he can make it.

Don't worry, mine is stock, too. Only real thing is maintainance and a K&N. Should be pretty close, if we both drive about the same. It doesn't matter what you are driving, if you have a close race, it is exciting. Mine is my daily driver too, and I run it enough to keep it cleaned out on the road. Nothing crazy, just get into from time to time. You should be fine if it is and has been taken care of. (Mainly previous owners)

I saw a car I want today. It is a 1998 BMW 328i. 2.8 I6, with 193 hp @5000 and 206 ft/lbs tq @ 3950. That car is as smooth as glass handling and riding. I mean my is nothing shabby handling, but that car is sweet. May look into it. I won't trade mine, but 28-35 miles per gallon and it being quick..... What do you guys think? It looks like this but it is red and has nice 18 inch aftermarket wheels and 225/40 R16 Z-rated Fuzions on it.

Nice Bimmer. Maybe Im getting old, but before I bought another car to insure and maintain, I would dump it into my 3rd Gen.Lets say your gonna spend 4-grand on that BMW. With that you can do an engine and tranny swap, which you say your dreaming of in you profile, and still have a nice car. If your into the looks, you could buy a wheel and tire package, and still have enough money left over to do most of the suspension upgrades. I wont buy another car for myself, unless this one falls apart. But thats me. And If you guys pick a day, Ill be there, at BMS. Pick a day and time. Dont forget to tell the guys at Z28.com

I know. I probably won't get it, but I would like to. I would probably have to pay payments on that one considering that it is right at $10,000. I would park the Camaro to save mileage and wear and tear and probably take it off the insurance, and start pulling the parts I am going to replace. But I doubt that would ever happen. Too much money. I will probably just keep driving the Camaro and wish I had a BMW to drive to keep the miles off my car. But it was a nice thought.
What about Tuesday? That way it won't be so far into the week that I will be behind in class.

Had a good time meeting fireball451 and EZdoesit-TN. They have some nice cars, and we all good some looks @ our Third Gens. SO nice to have more than one. Weekend of the 24 we should all try to get together there (after those two get back from Bowling Green) Hey, DrummerDad, EZdoesit-TN has some pretty good TBI mods we should look into. I am gonna replace my air box with the open element air filter like EZdoesit-TN. See ya'll at the drags!!

Was good to sit and talk third-gen f-bodies.
Looked good having three nice examples sitting out there.
Too bad we didn't have a camera.
Need to get a few more out there.

Hey, DrummerDad, EZdoesit-TN has some pretty good TBI mods we should look into.
Thanx for looking out for me. I am planning on doing the LT-1 swap. I looked into my options, and started out thinking about a 383-TPI combo. But after doing a little research, the LT-1 is definetly the way to go. Plus you start with almost 70 h.p. more, and the power potential is greater. I can buy an LT-1 for about $1000, and for another $2500 get about 450 h.p. Add a little nitrous, and kiss the minute r!ce goodbye.

I am planning to do an LS swap. I looked into it an thought about an LT1, but I decided to finish the suspension, drive train, and some other stuff, then start saving on an LS1 T56 combo.

It will be more expensive, but they are all aluminum and about 80-90 lbs lighter than older iron blocks like my L03 and lighter than LT type motors. The intake is also plastic. That is good, because it will rebalance the weight of the car and make it a little less nose heavy and that may help connering. That, and unless I was misinformed, they are 6 bolt mains. But, like I said, they are more expensive. So you will have the LT1 for about a year or two before I have my new engine.

I'm waiting to see how GM Hight Tech Performance Magazine's 5.7 Vortec TPI turns out. They plan on it putting a hurting LT1's and LS1's. Not too sure what type of money is involved. The article is very indepth and will be spead out over several issues.
The plans are to optimize the torque that the TPI set up builds. They are adapting new technology to the TPI to make it perform to the max.
I think the TPI makes the best looking motor. I have always loved the looks of the runners.

Any ways, looks like I may be at the street fights tuesday. Might have to bring the old third-gen. Is everyone racing? Don't know is I will or not.

I always liked the TPI look. But for me, form follows function. I was turned off by the amount of money, and overall lack of potential. The LT-1/LT-4 to me looks almost as good, but has a butt-load more potential. And tell me this engine doesnt look good.

Didn't know about the TPI Vortec. I may go that way - who knows how many times I will change my mind before I get the money to complete the change. TPI swap is easier than LS1, but then, it would still be iron. So, who knows?

Advice, don't do an LS1 Google Image search with the filters off. Humping llamas....

Anyway, try to figure this one out.

Sand Dragster, or Sand dune hopper. I saw the paddle tires in the top corner. I dont want the LS-1 because of money, again. For the cost of that swap, I can have an LT-1 and a T-56, in and running. Plus all the go-fast engineering feets in le LS-1 are gonna spell head-aches when you start wiring. Plus price a set of heads and a cam for an LS-1. No thank you.

I know where you are coming from there. I just want to do this my way, even thought it will take a while longer and be more expensive. I just want to do it this way.

I just want to do this my way

That is what makes our hobby so great. I wasnt actually trying to tell you otherwise, or even that my way is better. I have been into VWs for the last couple of years. I know all about doing things different. I am just out for a certain performance level, and the LT-1 seems to me to be the easiest/cheapest way to get there. Then a T-56 will find its way in there, and maybe a little N2O, and some suspension mods. Life is good when you have a nice muscle car to work on. I wish you the best, and might even help you with it, if you would like a little help. That is why were talking about getting a club going. Strength in numbers.

I know that you weren't trying to convince me otherwise, I was just saying why I was doing the LS1. I would love some help when I get started. And feel free to ask if need any. My dad has a big shop and we might be able to do some work there. Lots of tools!!!

I don't know anything about chip burning, but there are several on the board who do. Check on the Burning board. I think that Fireball 451 knows someone who knows someone that can burn them.

I can't make it to the Street Fights Thursday, but I can Tuesday. The manager scheduled me Thursday. That stinks about the rejection sticker. What is that anyway?
