Re: Florida Gathering!!
I did both of my fronts with new calipers and they were EXTREMELY cheap. Think they had a core as well. But talking like $14 bucks after the core, another $10 for the core. Easy job. Get car up, take wheel off, remove the two caliper bolts, remove the brake line bolt, install new caliper. Just don't forget the crush washers and DON'T over tighten the brake hose bolt. You'll be sorry.

Re: Florida Gathering!!
I saw those reman. calipers on advancedautoparts website and they are definitely cheap. I take the old caliper pistol assembly off and hand it over for a refund if I am not mistaken. Not sure what parts I'd replace vs what parts stay attached, I am a visual learner so I'll understand more tomorrow when I get my knuckles bloody. I asume the support bracket stays but I am unsure about the top cover (part that swings open to fit the pads on), from pics on google it looks to be one entire piece.
I appreciate advice, but lets not turn this thread into a fix thread. If all goes well, I'll see you at the meet.

If you buy new calipers you might as well get new brake hoses as well. They can go bad(spungy on inside)plus you will already have them half way off......
On a side note....I would tell those old winny azz bags (association people)to F off and to suck a big harry fat one.....

Re: Florida Gathering!!
I live in a deeded community where a jack stand in your yard is more offensive than a burning cross... I really want to go to this event as my old area has zero f-body events.
Since making my post, I've grown some *****
I put some bolt-buster and cracked the nuts tonight. I'll try and ninja the caliper off tomorrow, soak it in kerosene overnight and use pipe cleaner to get in the hole. Got some silicon spray to lube up the pistons and such as well.
I've never done this before but the videos I see make me confident I can do it.
- clean both front calipers
- replace front hoses
- replace brake fluid and flush by stomping the brakes
- bleed brakes
Hopefully it works in time for the 13th
I'd accept any help in the immediate area of Clearwater, plus being new, making some friends would be nice. Worst case, I can borrow my grandfathers Camry to come anyways >:]

Re: Florida Gathering!!
outer brake pad removed
You can see the clip pulled out of the piston
clip installed on the pad
So based on these pics, you might want to pull it back apart and put the clips on just to be safe. Also, when you bleed the brakes, do a nice steady slow pump of the pedal, hold the pedal down & crack the bleeder (this is a two person exercise). From what I've read, pumping the pedal quickly aerates the fluid. Now would be a good time to flush the old fluid out too with some new fresh fluid. Avoid synthetic fluid. Ask me how I know all of this!
Oh, and one more thing... put synthetic grease on the back of the pads and where the metal on the pads touches the calipers to avoid brake squeal. Just don't put it on the part of the pad that contacts the rotor

Re: Florida Gathering!!
Those clips are there to hold the pads to the caliper, you really should have them in....Im pritty sure that when the piston retracts it pulls the pad away from the rotor, without the clips the pad wont stay put......

We are leaving straight from the game and coming down in the 2013 SS.
If anyone was interested in driving the '86 IROC for me, she will just be sitting here waiting for some attention.
Talk about last minute! I have not washed either one, packed up the tents and games, nor gotten all the IROC's extra parts gathered together for tomorrow. I have my own softball game tonight too...so looks like we're coming in a brand new 2 week old car that is already filthy. (thanks Florida rains)

Re: Florida Gathering!!
My car is "under construction", Most of the interior is out, saving up for a paint job (uh, it's factory black and black primer at the moment).... today fixed a problem with AC / ECM, it wasn't getting a signal when AC kicked in, and idle would dip, so ran a wire from AC to ECM and now works great
So I don't have to tell this story 50 times... I was born legally blind... Didn't see well enough to get a license... always loved cars.... bought a 91 Formula to turn into Kitt... 3 years ago, at age 38, I went to get new contact lenses and the doctor said my vision had improved to where I can now drive... So been driving 3 years, it's been crazy, good crazy... for the first couple months, I kept walking over to the passenger side of the car Had my Formula for about 6 years, been doing upgrades to suspension and stuff... Looking forward to meeting everyone...

I made it up here to St Pete.
Looking forward to tomorrow morning. Just waiting to hear from Jim about setup time
I dug out a set of Eibach Pro-kit springs I had collecting dust. $125 will take them if anyone is interested
Look for the blue 91 Firebird with black crosslace wheels

I thought it was a major leak....
If thats all it is then I wouldn't worry...A puff of smoke on start up is typical for these cars, especially after they have alot of miles on them.....Mine did....

almost made it. we left at about 7 am this morning. made it to exit 17. then my tranny started slipping bad. i turned around looking for a parts store or anything. ended up useing 4 qts. of tranny fluid to get back home! the whole back of my car is soaked with tranny fluid,....the bumper, tag, lights, spoiler. im glad we made it home. i just put new front and rear seals in her about 2 years ago. it appears to be leaking out of the rear seal though. gonna jack it up and check it over. what a stupid thing to happen. gonna get to work in a few mins.

Re: Florida Gathering!!
I would like to thank everyone for coming out, and those who attempted to come out and had to turn around and go back home due to oil/tranny leaks(Joe.) Hope you got it fixed and all is well. We will definietly do something in the Tampa and Orlando area soon. Maybe split the two and do something in Lakeland.
Jay and everyone/anyone who helped John get his radiator replaced, . It's good to have some helping hands at a time like that.
All in all i'de say 30 cars total?? Not bad. I really wasn't sure how many to expect. Was good to put names to faces and meet some new people as well. Some of you i've talked to before and have seen on the boards for the last 8-10 years and this was the first time meeting you. That's ridiculous. We all live within 30-45min of eachother.
As mentioned, thank you Luis for the raffle items. Dave, thank you for bringing them out. Everyone enjoyed it.
For those who didn't stay and camp, you should have. Had a good time last night. Still tired and slightly hung over. Just made it home.
Now, where the hell are all the pictures guys???? Thanks Grim for posting some.

Re: Florida Gathering!!
My girlfriend & I had a real nice time meeting all of you. It was great seeing so many third gens all together. Usually you're lucky if you see one at car shows. At least in the Orlando area. Thanks Jim for setting this up & thanks Luis for the raffle prizes. Let's try to make it an annual event if possible. Hopefully next year both Luis & I will have our cars there.
We had a pretty interesting trip home from the event. First we came across this guy...
The car looked like it was really nice. It's just that the rear bumper was 3' off the ground. I'm not trying to bash a fellow hot rodder, but seriously dude, "the 70's called and they want you back!"
Then we came across a Maxima fully engulfed in flames on the side of I-4. The fire trucks were just putting out the fire when we got up to it. Luckily it was on the other side of the interstate. It didn't look like anyone was hurt.
Then in Orlando there were two morons in BMW's RACING through heavy traffic on I-4. Weaving in and out of traffic. I don't know how they didn't cause an accident. Apparently they have more dollars than sense! The trip got kind of boring after that.
