Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
What's new people of Tucson?
Had a small smoking problem in the engine bay area, but it happens every once in awhile. Asked around and was told it may be a small exhaust leak (already knew I had one, but that's never happened.) I've been probing around and I'm leaning towards a lil oil drippage near the valve head area. I smelled the smoke when I saw it (hood was down after I shut down the car), and it had the smell of oil.
So after fixing a pain in the royal *** code, this problem arises *sigh* so now I'm on a mission to get that fixed. I figure if I'm gonna get that fixed, I may as well paint the valve head covers while I'm at it lol.

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Hows it going? Any 3rd gen fanatics in Tucson or nearby areas? if so, we're planning a Tucson 3rd gen gathering very soon. First, we'll need to get an acceptable number of people to sign up because what good would a 3 person gathering be, lol! I was thinking maybe 10+ people to make it worth while and to check out the sweet rides . All ideas, opinions, advice is welcome. Be sure to sign up here if you're interested.
Thanks,
Phoenix

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
ok well, most of what i would say has already been said. but.
1. i dont know much about 2nd gens, but there should be a hole to look down at your timing belt / harmonic balancer, look through there while doing your timing, i figure you made sure it was tdc when you did your distributor if you even pulled it out, what i dod was jack up the sar, and paint the notch on the harmonic balancer, i painted it white on mine, it made it a lot easier to set the timing.
2. white smoke would most likely be head gasket, check your water to make sure there isnt any oil in it, i suggest dumping it into a pan and looking at it in the sunlight, if there is a rainbow look to it, replace the head gasket.
3. blue smoke means you are burning oil, run a compression test, it could be the valve stem seals if it only smokes blue when accelerating, if it smokes blue smoke when just running (starting up, idleing, etc) its possible one of your rings will need to be replaced.
i may have missed a few things but those would be my first to check. all in all, if you like your 305, i would just skip all this, pull the heads and have them machined / components redone, it may cost you $300-400 but most likely if done right you wont have any problems any time in the future, and then you just throw a new set of headgaskets on when you get them back and you can do your rings just to make sure because they prolly need to be done anyways with the milage on your engine. all in all just doing that your looking at $500 and about a week worth of down time, depending on how long the shop takes to do your heads.

Ok I know this is a old thread, but I didn't realize there were as many Tucson F- bodys out there. I ran across this thread looking under flushing radiator. I posted a thread about a week ago for a Tucson meet and cruise. Only got one reply. I think it would be great if you guys are still out there, lets have a meet Let me know. Peace!

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
I usually see at least two 3rd gens once a week here in town - on the road that is. There was a red Formula on Kolb and 22nd area parked in the front yard with 2 flat tires, it's now been moved (hopefully not to the scrap yard). There was a red T/A near the junk yard on Miracle Mile/I-10 area with horrible oxidation and 4 flat tires with a for sale sign on it - that one is gone as well. Every time I drive down Escalante/Kolb while heading East, there's a black bird on the left side, I think it's their daily driver as I see it gone often and sometimes on jack stands in the front yard. I also saw a black Z28 near Irvington and Prudence area parked in front of a house.
Just goes to show there are some cool cars out there still...

Would be nice to meet on a Saturday or Sunday cruise. But doesn't matter to me.
My motor had been getting warm, looking for a airdam, if anyone knows where to get one, let me know. I can do the picture's!

Wiggles: Last time I ran into a 3rd gen (as in side by side), I ended up racing him (that's when I first got the car). Guy seemed pretty nice, and wasn't a sore loser at all. Exchanged a few compliments as did he, and we both parted ways. Yeah, there is still plenty of cool cars out there, and these happen to fall into that category.
saadin: any luck on the interiors?
91RsNate: I don't really think there is one, as everyone has their own time schedules. What part of the NW side you on? I see a few 3rd gens here and there.
camarosrock1989: I agree, a meet would be pretty cool. Gotta form an epic 3rd gen pack lol. As for an airdam, you hit up the junkyards? Might get lucky with that. If not, online or maybe a dealership might be able to get one for ya. They cost around 30-40 just so ya know.

Im in continental reserve area. Ive seen more and more now that I own one, Its stock for now with The replica 17's on it, But I have big plans for a hot vortec headed 350 in the Very near future. It will probably have drag lites or weld pro stars on it here soon too (im not a corner carver, im a go fast in a 1/4 mile guy, lol) but It will still be streetable, just with some ummph, lol.

Saadin that would be great if you had a airdam Please let me know!
I am in the Oro Valley area, N-W side of town. There are a few Z28 over here with the TPI's in them that are pretty sweet! I have a V6, not fast at all, but I love driving it. I think I am the only one with the two tone paint job in town. Haven't seen any others. Someday I want to paint it the original color. So lets do a cruise sometime soon. The more the nicer it will LOOK! HaHa

Saadin: Hey, I already told ya I did some fluid changes on the car right? It's holding pressure quite well. That, and it's alot more responsive! 1 year of no oil change= syrup lol. Now if the weather was more polite, a nice wash and wax would surely follow lol.
91RsNate: I have the slightest idea where that's at man. Vortec 350 eh? Sounds fun man. What ya have in it now? Nothing wrong with goin fast in the 1/4. I never been to the track, but I can't say the same bout the street lol.
camarosrock: Nothin wrong with a V6. Bet it's hella good on gas. What kinda interior parts you have? Didn't see any link lol.

As for the mirror I'd be willing to let you test fit it if u want its cool with me so just let me know. Another 3rd gen is definately in my future plans but the 4th gen (93-97) trans ams have really grown on me and would love to own one of those. I think it would be awesome to have a 3rd & a 4th gen .

Yeah really lol if I still had my car (and a job), we would of had a couple of get-togethers already; I do remember attending a 'gathering' once which was supposed to be held at the el con parking lot but nobody showed ! Actually what I'm working on is getting a job believe it or not these last couple of years have been hell but I'm still keeping my head up and looking! So you've added 2 more cars to your collection?

My friend is selling his 91 Z28 5.7 for $2800 Looks nice on the out side, needs some work on the interior if you guys know of anyone looking to buy a camaro. He lives in Tucson. If we are going to get a cruise together we better do it soon! My car doesn't like the heat!

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
I'm new here on the forum. I don't drive a 3rd gen yet but I'm shopping pretty hard for one. I'm looking all around the U.S. for what I have in mind. I'm trying to get ahold of a 88-92 with TPI in decent condition. My current daily is a 08 Trailblazer SS which is why I am shopping for a Camaro now to save some on gas. My SS hogs it at 12mpg and I just got a new job in Sahuarita and live in Sabino Canyon haha. Anyways, I'll be around more once I find the right car for me, hopefully soon.
