License and registration fees are being doubled next year here in Cali???

I haven't seen a discussion from our government savy members we have on here about this so I thought I would mention it. It seems like the powers that be in Sacramento are proposing to double the license and registration fees here in Cali. So, instead of paying $65 or so for license and registration, I will be paying over $130 next year. However, like many my GTA is not the only vehicle I own. I have another vehicle (newer truck) that costs around $272 for license and registration. If they double it, that means I could be paying over $500 for license and registration for just one vehicle. This is ludicruous!

Why would they propose such a thing especially in these bad economic times when people are being laid off, losing equity on their homes and having their savings and 401K's ravaged? It doesn't make sense. What about people who own multiple vehicles? That's really going to put the hurt on them. People are going to be stealing tags off license plates like crazy if this happens. And, it's going to encourage people who can't afford it to drive around with fake tags, fake plates or worse. This is not good.

5 vehicles, one with commercial plates in my family. Slice your new tags with a razor to prevent them from being stolen. Round the heads of the bolts on the licence plate to prevent their theft too. I've had both stolen. Remember to vote when the next election comes around.

ps: Those of you that are fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger movies; He's taking time off to work on a new horror film. The working title is: "Arnold Schwarzenegger is governor of California".

Re: License and registration fees are being doubled next year here in Cali???

see my post on "bringing cars to CA" for a list of fees.
In the new CA budget are license fee increases 15% increase to the CHP and 35% on registration

The Democrats just cant cut spending. Their only answer to cover their drunken sailor spending is to raise taxes and fees.

Wait till the Fed BS hits your utility bills. The new Fed budget is about 3x the previous one at $3.6 TRILLION all deficit spending.

And people thought Bush was a spender, you aint seen nothing yet, Obomba and company will make Bush look like Scrooge McDuck.

The fees to register my GTA not inc the sales tax
CURR RF $31
CURR CHP $22
CURR VLF $19
CURR SAFE $1
CURR FID $1
CURR AUTO/DUI $1
CURR ABN VEH $1
CURR AIR QLT $6
CURR SC AIR $1
ALT FUEL RF $3
TRANSFER $15

Now the question is; did you vote and who for?
If you didnt vote you only add to the problem.

As mentioned, its not double but it is 50% increase. And they're not talking about it, they already did it. You will also be paying more income tax and sales tax.

These big tax and spend liberals need to be removed from office. The sequal to the horror movie is "Arnold Shriver and the Liberal Legislature"

Because the libs have over spent to the amount of 42 billion dollars and Arnold is trying to close the gap. I don't call it a registration fee, it's a car tax, plain and simple. I think Oregon charges $32 flat fee every other year. Oh, and it's not proposed, it's a done deal. It was included in the state budget last week....

I for one am having fantasies about burning their houses down and tar and feathering them just like the Sons Of Liberty did back when our country was founded. Ahhhhnold is an ******* that has sold us all down the river. Unemployment is over 10% in this state and what do the *******s in Sacramento do, raise even more taxes and squash the middle class into oblivion.

I **** you not Im all for a revolution just like the Boston Tea party.

And yes I do vote for all the good that does.

Everybody talks about how the wrong people were voted for, but I don't remember seeing anything about "candidates who we should vote for because they support auto enthusiasts' around election time?

I heard very good arguments about why I should vote Republican before the election, but what about the local CA officials? Are all democrats bad, or something?

I would have voted for the right people, if I knew exactly who or why.

They're all to blame, unfortunately. I dont think there's even anyone to vote for to fix this mess, all any of them do is spend more than the last guy. Every year since Gray Davis burned our surplus funds in the electrical outage scandal we've been running with a continual deficit just like the feds... difference being we dont skim off the top of foreign payments and cant print money.

Maybe when we're paying 100% in taxes it'll end.

True both parties are to blame. Both parties want to maintain power in their comfortable little districts and do as little as possible to upset the balance, yet we the people keep voting these clods in year after year (except me of course )

Re: License and registration fees are being doubled next year here in Cali???

They are all bad. SEMA does have a list of "car friendly" politicians but thats only Federal.
What our founding fathers didnt anticipate was "career politicians".
These people are so entrenched they know they will always be reelected, Feinstien will probably win after shes so dead the worms have left. All term limits did was create a musical chairs political game. Bill Campbell and Todd Spitzer are a example of this.
About the only solution is to constantly vote out the incumbants. Maybe then they will listen to the people.
I cant wait for the carbon footprint-greenhouse gas rules to kick in.

Re: License and registration fees are being doubled next year here in Cali???

Regarding the budget it seems to me the Democrats are always 100% for the increases. The Republicans are the ones trying to hold the line. Unfortunately there are a couple of Republicans that eventually vote for the increases.

I have never seen a Democrat vote against the budget increases in this state. I strongly disagree that "they are all bad" or "they are all the same". Nothing could be futher from the truth.

Re: License and registration fees are being doubled next year here in Cali???

Those hold out Republicans sold out when they got some pet projects included.

The worst part is that due to the economy sales taxes are way down, a lot of people are going to have their houses reassessed lowering the property taxes and in 2 months they start new budget talks. So along about Aug expect to see more tax increases.
I have no idea what they are thinking, there is a $42 billion deficit of a ~$110 billion total budget, that means they are overspending by over 60%.
Time to cut spending BIG TIME.
Of course it really helps their income by CARB chasing business' out of CA.

$54 for my Camaro for two years. No smog checks. Track is only 45 minutes away(1/8 mile). No sales tax. Weve been here five years now. It has been a good move for me and my family. Jeff

From what I understand the liberals are starting to take over Oregon. It will just be a matter of time.

Too many tree huggers in Oregon and Portland is trying to be the greenist city in the world no matter what it costs.
BTW, whats your personal income tax? Somehow they have to pay for all those great things the Oregon politicians do for you and yours.

They don't have prop 13 so the property taxes are adjustable.

FYI A new tax based on annual mileage is gaining ground in DC. As one democrat lawmaker said "they are gonna get whether they like it or not."

..and Barbara Boxer thought it was a great idea. When are the people going to wake up in this country? They are also trying to tax cows for the emissions they produce when they pass gas. These people are insane.

The greenhouse gas and carbon footprint laws are just ways of increasing income to Sac. The sole purpose is to create a new fee and fine structure and create more govt jobs paid for will our dollars.
If thats not bad enough, the Republicans dont have a candidate for Gov that they think can beat the top 3 democrat possibilities, one of which is Jerry Brown jr. SOMEONE save us.

When it comes to the president election, Ca is Blue, when it comes down to State Elections it's more Red or Red. Thats why you have Arnold in office, he basically wouldnt let anybody talk, and got in.

Republicans dont have any right to even speak yet. And they dont have anybody in most of the Blue States, Basically the way it went all Blue for the Election, well that's the way it's going to go with these tax issues.

Get ready when you can only have one packet of condiment, any more needed they will charge, and I have heard it's happening now.

One of the most important things is are they on the right track with this Terrorist problem.
