I want to cut the spring. I know exhaust will be worn out by asphalt and front will hit every humb on the road but I still wanna do it.. My GTA looks like SUV Since missing front impact bumper(the invisible one) and crap-around-spoiler the weight is almost 100lbs less. It's all visible fat.

Lowering: Is it simply to cut the spring at the front or is there some hocus-pocus involved that I should to be concerned?

It depends on what you expect...

A quick quiz...

1. What are your current camber caster and toe in settings ?
2. Are you close to the limit of adjustability for any of these ?
3. How fresh is the front end otherwise ?

Results
1. If you don't know the answer to any of these
questions go ahead an whack a quarter to a half a coil
and your done. It won't be much worse than what
you got now. (you won't know the difference anyway)

2. If you know 2 of 3 find out what the answer is to the
other question and use that to determine if you'll be
able to align your car in some reasonable compromise
after lowering.

Personally, I think you'd be better off buying a set of lowering springs and save yourself some headache.

Lowering the car will actually improve camber adjustment. It seems that at stock height you pretty much max out the camber trying to achieve a "0" setting. Even at the factory 0 setting you'll wear out the outside edges of your tires.

Lower the car and go with a -0.5 camber setting.
