Why can't I lock-em up???

I was flyin down the road today and had to do a panic stop. Know what happened next? Nothing. I had the pedal all the way down and they wouldn't lock up. I had to escape and evade to avoid an accident. I have 4 wheel disc with plenty of pad life. I would like to know what could be causing this problem? Wimpy brakes? Pressures too low? Master cylinder failing?

Any ideas?

Since you have the '89 system, you have the better brakes of the F-bodies. When was your system last serviced...new brakes, bleeding the system and changing fluid? New hoses? Could be a number of things...but I think I'd slow it down a bit until you get it fixed

The pads are recently new with only about 20,000 if that on them. I use raybestos (premium) brakes. The rotors have never been changed since I got the car about 50,000 ago, they have been turned though. The hoses were also replaced 40,000 miles ago. I Recently changed from a 9 bolt rear to a 10 and had to change the bracketry. I ordered rotors for the rear from JC whitney. I'm not sure if they are right but seem to fit OK. I have always had a problem with hard braking wimpyness though.

I couldn't lock mine up previously either. Was also pulling to the right in hard braking. Put new front hoses on last week and NO MORE PULLING and they will lock up now if you jam em on......So, if they won't lock.....start there, then check the metal lines for kinks then to the prop valve, master cylinder and calipers. These brakes WILL lock if all is working right so there is a hydralic problem somewhere. Hope this helps.

I'd be worried if your brake don't lock. I have the sad set up drisc/drums and the only thing that makes me pull hard left/right when locking is alignment and road condition. Under non lock situations she stays straight so I'm happy about that. If it doesn't lock sounds like a hydraulic problem, check fluid levels and ensure proper bleeding was done. An air buble in the system, water in it, low fluid will cause an effect like you described. i've only had to do 1 evade in my life and that was with a busted cylinder in my left rear brake drum causing my brake to lockup. I learned the hard way it had broke and almost cost me big time. Repairing brakes though, although messy is the easiest thing to do.
