Wheel Wobble - Car Undriveable

Yesterday morning I noticed my steering wheel had an odd vibration, didnt think too much of it but I knew something wasnt right. I drove my car for about an hour, by the time I got back home I felt a terrible wobble coming from the drivers side front tire. When I say terrible I mean I cannot even drive the car around the block for fear of the wheel falling off, thats how bad it feels. I took the rotor off to repack the grease, (bearings were replaced 2 months ago aswell as the spindle) i put it back together, that did nothin at all. I know I need new ball joints and bushings but I dont think that would cause a sudden wheel wobble this terrible. This problem was real sudden. The night before this problem occured I had to slam my brakes pretty hard, the car pulled me to the left until i let go and re-applied the brakes, it straightened itself out, I dont know if braking that hard could have somehow damaged something, but the wobble occurs while driving not only when applying the brakes. Im stuck!! She's my daily driver. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Sounds like you need new rubber hoses for your front brakes; and the caliper on the right side, in addition to not working beacue the fluid can't get to it, also won't release because once a couple of molecules of fluid DO manage to squeeeek by the restrcition in the line somehow, they can't get back out, so that brake is dragging.

Check and see if your right front wheel gets hot while driving. I'm betting it does.

In other words, restricted (their usual failure mode) rubber brake hoses, account for ALL of the observed symptoms.

See my signature for advice on dealing with this situation. Then change out your rubber brake hoses. All 3 of them. You can be fairly sure that if ONE of them has rusted itself shut inside, then the other 2, which have been subjected to exactly the same conditions for exactly the same length of time, are not far behind. I'd suggest getting the Earl's (NOT Russell) stainless braided set for your car.

Thanks for the input. The Right side caliper? I changed the 2 front hoses in september, could they have gotten that bad in a few months? On the other hand the calipers are about 2 years old

Possibly. They're SUPER cheeeep, like less then $12 apiece, so it hardly matters; if you suspect them EVEN A LITTLE BIT, just change them out. Wouldn't hurt to get new caliper bolts while you're at it, for another $2 a side, you can pretty much eliminate all possible causes of binding.

Doesn't too much matter when something was last replaced, though; if it's borke, arguing with about "but... but.... but... you're only xx months old" probably won't convince it to heal, like out of shame or somehting. Parts are real ornery that way, I've found.

Again, see my sig for help with logic. Wherever logic takes you, you gotta go there, whether you'd like to or not.
