Brake hose mounting w/ Bilstein struts & C5 brakes

I bought a new pair of the revised part # struts from AZ. They are not tapped for the brake hose bracket, and did not include a bolt/nut. I picked up some from the hardware store but when I set it up, it seems like it puts the hose in a wierd angle and might bind. Anyone else run into this problem, if so, did you just zip tie to the strut or something?

Jeff

I would not put my front hose in any weird position, its a pretty important part. Post up a pic of what your talking about. It shouldnt be at a weird angle if its tapped right in the stock location....

Like I said its not tapped, but there is a hole there. I'll try to take a pic tonight and post. I hadn't heard of anyone else having this problem so I was surprised/perplexed...

I just did my struts and when i attached the brake hose to the strut i dont believe the hole is tapped, i was using that to refer to the fact that there should be a hole, or at least a provision for one. I just used the old mounting bracket on the hose and screwed it in. It sounds like there could be a problem with your mounting bracket though, a bolt shouldnt affect the placement of the hose.

Re: Brake hose mounting w/ Bilstein struts

IIRC the bracket mounting bolt is self-threading. Should be able to just thread it into the strut flange.

Re: Brake hose mounting w/ Bilstein struts

The issue I'm having is caused by the fact that I'm doing a C5 front brake conversion at the same time, and I forgot to mention that.

Upon looking at it more, the stock (non-1LE) hose is long enough (actually about 2" too long), but it is just "bent" from being mounted to the bottom of the stock calipers for so long. I have bought new stock hoses, and plan to mount those. I still will have the same problem that if I mount w/ the hose bracket in the stock location it will not orient the hose correctly (since the C5's mount to the back), so I plan on just zip tying it to the strut and calling it a day. Part of the problem also is that the stock frame and strut mount brackets are "keyed" to keep the hose oriented correctly instead of letting it rotate freely. I'm not sure why, and I have toyed with the idea of using E clips or snap rings to hold it in place but possibly let it rotate. So, feel free to vote which you think is best/safest:

1) Mount to frame bracket only (indexed for proper orientation per stock) and C5 caliper. Zip tie at top of bend to strut.
2) Mount to frame bracket and strut bracket usings E clips or snap rings to allow rotation of hose.

Thanks
