New power steering pump and lines, wierd problem?
I just picked up an 85 T/A WS6, w/ an L69, 5-speed, a/c, Etc.....
So when I bought it the guy said that the p/s pump was leaking and as a result it had no power steering (no fluid)....so I get it home put a reman p/s pump in and replaced the hp and lp hoses, plus a new pulley. I bled the system, this is the second vehicle I've had to repalce a pump on so I am familiar with the process. There are no leaks, the fluid level is correct, and when I start the T/A power steering is perfect, but when I start driving, after say about 10 mins or so, enough time for everything to warm up, when I turn the wheel, there is a noise that sounds like a sewing machine and the wheel vibrates, so I popped the hood and had someone else turn the wheel while stopped and me looking at the whole assembly, there are no leaks but when the wheel is turned, the pump starts to vibrate like it is working too hard, the bracket and everything is tight, would the gear box wear out from not having fluid in it? I don't know how long the p/s system was dry for, or how long it was driven without fluid in the system, when i was bleeding the system it went lock to lock smoothly, with the wheels off the ground, and when it is cold it is fine, only seams to do this once it warms up.
Any thoughts.

Why does it matter if the old one was dry? You said you installed a remanufactured unit.

Reman pump yes, but the gearbox is the original one.

Sounds like your Pump is going out the door. I'd look into getting a new pump. The gearbox wouldn't vibrate the power steering pump itself. There is something wrong with the pump, and do not run a power steering pump without fluids whatsoever. As for running a gearbox without fluids I would presume would be the same, do not do this. But the vibration sounds like its your pump going out and not the box.
