Low fuel pump voltage/code 54?

Can anyone define this code? low fuel pump voltage? What exactly does this mean? Less that 2 V. being seen at the pump, does this mean the pump is not getting enough voltage to opperate properly? Or is the computer getting a signal of low pressure output measured in volts to trigger a trouble code signifying the pump as being bad or on it's way out? I replaced the oil pressure switch and the fuel pump relay, cleared the memory and the code hasen't come back yet but the starting problem and loss in performance still exists. After I start the car and it dies, I can hear the fuel pump continue to run. It runs as long after it dies as it does when I first turn the key on to start it!
I figure if it runs that long, then their wasn't enough pressure when it died to keep it running Right? Any help appreciated!!

Dammm! Figured some one would know this one! How about this, What would keep the spark adv. from working properly? A componet in the system or a bad ECM? I checked my rate of adv. with a timing light and it drops back to 0* before it even starts to adv. when I crack the throttle open. Seems it should adv. right away! Of corse I could have more than one problem, or one could be causing others anyway I definatly have One! 88 Lo3 Tbi auto.

I think the code points to the fuel pump not providing enough pressure. Tested it with fuel pressure tester and Wala! 5lbs priming and 7 1/2 running. New pump is going in this weekend.
My senario was correct! The ECM gets msg. pressure measured in volts when low. signals code 54.

Actually, it's reading the fuel pump voltage.. really. Go check at the tank connector with a multimeter. (orange wire)

Our cars can't do self-diagnostic pressure tests.. they're not nearly that advanced.

Yeah, I know now! as the voltage drop's so does the fuel pressure. I have a Haynes manual, a Chilton's, and a list of codes from High performance pontiac and none of them mentioned or explained details of low fuel pump voltage (less that 2 volts being seen at the pump) Luckily, someone replyed to one of my posts so I went and got a pressure tester. Problem showed itself then. He got me on the right track. ( I think it was Vader).

See post "fuel pressure question, urgent" on tbi board for results.
