1991 camaro tbi flooding
ok so I have a 91 Camaro I have had it 2 years never had any problems with it. I have one now
so last sept I started to have a hard time getting it started for the first time of the day the rest of the day it was fine didn't matter on what temp it was the first start it would flood id have to hold it to the floor to get is started the it would cloud black smoke
I have in the last few days done a lo of reading but haven't found a cure
its getting to be the time to bring it back out for the year
any and all help would be great

Symptom of a bad coolant temperature sensor (CTS). May also need to replace the connector as they tend to corrode.

wouldn't a bad cts do it all the time not just on the first start of the day that being I started it yesterday when it was 20 degs would it still flood
that this point I will try almost any thing
but getting rid if the tbi isn't that far out of reach

I just had a similar issue with my 1989 C1500 Silverado with TBI and a 350. What it would do is not idle, you would have to hold the accelerator down to keep it running but
it would run very rough. I work at a GM dealer, had it towed in cause I couldn't figure it
out and was thinking it would be the fuel pump. Turns out it was a stuck Throttle Position Sensor due to a dirt dobber making a nest right where the TPS shaft is.
The computer was basically thinking that since the TPS was stuck full open it didn't need to compensate for IAC (idle air control valve) because it thought that the accelerator was wide open.
So try a new Throttle Position Sensor and go from there. Could be just messed up and flooding the engine.

I'm with RBob. In layman's terms, your TBI system uses the CTS like a carb uses a choke. This is how the computer knows when the engine is cold, and to enrich the mixture for starting.
They say even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Same for your CTS. It's sending the ECM a reading that is close enough to right for a warm engine as to not create substantial driveability or starting problems when the engine is warm, but very substantial ones when cold.
