Do these track numbers seem right????
my cousin took his IROC to the track on friday and came up with some "disappointing" numbers. He is not happy with the way his car performed at all. he also said it was "missing" or falling off about 5000-5500 rpms.
here are the numbers:
RT: .683
60': 2.098
330: 6.073
1/8: 9.281
MPH: 76.10
1000:12.08
1/4: 14.42
MPH: 96.85
My cousin and i both feel that the 1/4 time should have been 14.0 or faster and the MPH should have been in the 100s.
the car has Vortec iron heads and a stock chevy crate motor intake. Would the help of an Edelbrock RPM intake and a comp cams camshaft (1500-6500RPM range) help the car much. (Tech at Comp said the cam would match the heads & intake very nicely....what do you think?)
what can you conclude about these numbers....bad for the car or right about where it should be?
thanks for the help eveyon

What crate engine is it? I got the base model one, and the cam in it sucks. So yeah a cam change would help a lot in my situation. But what's the specs on that cam?

For a pretty stock car and motor those numbers are about average.

i am not sure of the cam specs right off hand, but it is the 330 hp motor. the auto will be a lose of power, but we estimate about 270ish to the wheels. (20% drivetrain lose estimate).
so, do you think that a cam will be the way to go?

I would say that maybe the tune is off but those numbers are still about average.

You best bet is a 268 cam, "HOT" valve spring kit, headers, RPM intake and a mild stall converter. With decent gears and a posi rear you'll be in the 13's at over 100mph easy. I was getting close to 109mph in my firebird with bone stock vortecs and the 268 cam, RPM intake, 3.73 gears and 5 speed.

Also, what ignition is he using? Cutting out at high RPMs is more often than not an ignition problem.

ok guys, here we go:
it has an accell distributor in it with Taylor 9mm wires.
the intake just has the chevy logo (i assume its a stock one with the 330 hp motor.
also, the car has a full exhaust on it (headers--hookers, and a flowmaster cat back system.
the cam right now thats in it (again, cam with crate motor), is only geared to about 4800-5000rpms.
do you just think that the car is running out of fuel? it has dosent have a much of a fuel system upgrade on it--no mechanical fuel pump or anything.
let me know
