Stalls at Deceleration

I had the same problem I see scattered throughout the message board. I have an 87, 5.0, 5-speed Rocker. Sudden stops would sometimes cause the engine to drop rpm's so slow it would stall. Sometimes it would drop to 450 or so and then recover to 750. I had to do the gymnastic shuffle with my feet to keep it from stalling and to keep from hitting what ever it was the caused the sudden stop situation

Then I got some throttle body cleaner. Cleaned the throttle body really good, tooth brush was effective, and now life is good. The rpm's now actually go up a 1000 or so when I engage the clutch and then slowly down to 750, never lower. Shifting is easier, no stalls and I think it sounds a little throatier. Lot's of brands at all parts stores and I bought the Gunk brand for no reason than being familiar with the name.

Hope this helps others.

I have the problem of the car acting weird at deceleration. Kind of burbles and dips low in the RPMS when the gas is let off and if I break hard it almost stalls. Also kind of skips when the car is cruising and has a slight hesitation sometimes when I start out accelerating. Is this what has been happening to you? I had my chip adjusted to try to counter the problem but that didn't work. I was thinking the distributor needed replacing. I haven't checked that yet or the fuel pressure.

The problem I had was limited to the rpm's periodically dipping so low during deceleration that the car would stall. Other than that it was running fine.
