Guys, help me make a decision.
I have been going back and forth on how to do a relatively cheap build up of my L98 87 Formula 350.
I have really been contemplating going with vortec heads, but it seems the option with using those heads are minimalized by either being stuck with going with TPI or moving to a high priced miniram superram set up.
In you opinion, what would I be better off doing, spending aprox 1200 on some fresh vortec heads, SD manifold and a nice cam or spending roughly the same ammount on a nice set of Trick flow aluminum heads and a nice cam while maintaning my stock TPI. I figure i'll hog out the TPI while it's off.
I had my heart set on going with a LT1 intake system and that is what has somewhat deterred me from the vortec set up and the price of the heads and manifold would basically equal the price of a nice set of aluminum heads. So what would you rather have, a vortec set up or aluminum heads to do a build up with?
This is just a start, kinda like building a nice platform to move foward with, so what is your input?

You also have the option of improving your stock TPI heads.
A generous port job ( that you can do at home) will result in a great street performance head. Intake flow about 235 to 240+ cfm exhaust flow about 185+. A 3 angle valve job and 1.94 x1.60" valve will fit the bill nicely.
This kind of performance is obtainable by you at home.
Your problem will be in getting the stock TPI manifold and runners to keep up. The LT1 intake conversion would be a good choice.
Note: the LT4 and LS1 head flows about this much.
I assume you have the 081 or 083 heads.
These heads flow about 190/195 stock.
