Car: 1986 IROC-Z Engine: L98 Transmission: TH-700R4 | How does an ignition module work? | My friend's 1993 Trans Am just lost its ignition module, and I was involved in determining that it was bad. I'm just a little curious as to how they work. On his car, for example, there are four wires going to the module, and four wires going to the coil. I've already determined that two of the coil's wires are for its primary power supply, so the other two must come from the module (the colors match up, too). Does the module receive some sort of signal from the ECM, then output it to the coil to tell the coil how much power it should produce? If that's the case, and module is slowly dying, could the coil be producing less power and thus affecting performance? | | |
