Need a Little Help
I have a carb'd 355 and when i got it out this year i did the basic tune up and put new gas in it. The idle is real rough and it has an off idle stutter. The stutter is almost like its down shifting but the cars in first gear so it can't down shift. Some people suggested that i check the vacume lines. Does this sound right? anything else that could cuase this? thanks.

Please define "tune-up".
My idea may be a little different than that of others. To me, a basic tune-up MUST include:

- Cooling system inspection;
- Clean or replace spark plugs;
- Ignition wire testing;
- Distributor cap/rotor (if you don't have the OptiSpark);
- PCV valve cleaning or replacement;
- Hose inspection;
- Belt inspection or adjustment;
- Air filter;
- Cleaning the throttle body/carburetor;
- Checking/setting TPS voltage on ECM cars;
- Check/adjust minimum air rate or idle position;
- Check/adjust timing;
- Code scan on ECM cars.

well it was a very basic tune up...like new plugs, cap, coil, wires, cleaning carb and choke assembly, air filter, and belts. other than that not to much has been checked. I ran a quick check on the vacume lines and i noticed one line has small surface cracks. Could this cuase my really crappy idle and hesetation? These cracks are very small and dont seem like they would do very much. thanks for the help so far.

As long as the hoses aren't leaking, they shouldn't be causing a problem. However, if they're cracking on the surfaces, they aren't too far from failing.
If you're using the E4ME carburetor, you may need to check the MC solenoid setting and TPS. If you have an aftermarket carb, you're on your own for mixture adjustment.
