heater controls

Sorry if it doesnt belong in here, couldnt figure out where to post it, feel free to move it.

Had a mechanic butcher up my car, one of the things he fuked up is the heater controls. I had him replace the heater core cause my arm was messed up from surgery, never replaced one on a Fbody. I have a 88 GTA, problems are the heater wont select a route to go as in it kinda comes out of everywhere no matter where it is set to go, and the blower doesnt work on high. Any suggestions on what to look for/diagrams that would be of use?

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP

That is controlled by vacuum. There's a hose tha tgoes to a little valve in the control head, bringing it vacuum; then there's little hoses going to all the doors that direct the air. For that, take the radio and control head out, and see if there's vacuum making it to the valve; if the valve works right when youmove the lever; etc.

Bad connection.... look at the plug that goes to the blower speed switch.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
Just last weekend I changed my heater core.

IIRC the hoses are all different colors, but there's a group of pink ones that lead to the control panel.

Regardless of which ones they are, even if they're hooked up, they still may not be the problem.

I had to unscrew the entire back (toward the inside of the car) of the heater box in order to get my heater core out because it was being stubborn. The box has a HUGE metal door over it that uses a long vertical rod as the hinge. If that doesn't sit EXACTLY where it's supposed to, it won't operate correctly.

I put mine in as well as I could, but it's still being picky. If I leave the controls on "Heat" and start the car, some of the air still comes out the dash vents. I have to actually move the controls to "Vent", then back to "Heat" in order to get all the air to blow on the floor board.

Do what RB says first. It's the easiest to check and most likely the problem. If that doesn't help, the next thing I'd check is the vacuum line to the heater control valve under the hood. If there's a leak anywhere in the system, the entire thing will act goofy.

If that doesn't do it, then more than likely it's that door seizing up somehow.
