overheating SBC400

I have a 85T/A that i recently drop a SBC400
in and I am having problems with the motor running too hot.It tends to want to hover around the 220* mark but rises when I sit still for a while. I have flushed the system,
set the timing at +6*,changed thermostats 160 then 195,added electric fans that now run all the time except at startup. the carb seems to be a bit rich not lean. The only problem I can see is the distance from the header crossover to the oil pan. If anyone else has this combo, have you had problems?

Thanks

Better than stock water pump, high-flow thermostat, 70% water to AF coolant ratio, some Red Line Water Wetter...

www.stewartcomponents.com

I had a 400 for many years in my 83 Z28, with the stock cooling system, with minimal problems. I had to put my original L69 (well, sort of) back into the car recently to pass California emissions inspection, but the 400 always stayed at a reasonable temp even when I was living in a much hotter part of the country. I had a Stewart Stage 2 water pump on my car for the last couple of years the 400 was in it.
