A few questions about emissions parts?

I live in TN, we dont have any inspections or emissions testing at all.

Im about to swap a 350 tpi into a 91 z28 which currently has a 305 tpi in it, and Id like to leave all the emissions junk out of the engine when I put the new one in.

My uncle (the mechanic for the job) was worried that "What if TN chooses to start emissions testing someday?". So Im wondering how that works? If you own a car that should have smog stuff on it, but doesnt, does that fail you? Or are cars grandfathered in or something?

Also, what effects will it have on the engine? Since its TPI and all computer controlled, will it act up if I leave the emissions stuff off? Can this be corrected somehow?

And finally, what emissions junk can be/should be left off?

When I look under the hood, I dunno whats emissions stuff and what isnt....Im not the mechanic...

Yes, if the state has visual inspections. Even without visuals, you are still federally required to run smog equipment.

You can safely remove your entire smog system (make sure to cap any loose vacuum tubing). However you should be aware that you will gain ZERO power, the only benefit from this is having a cleaner workspace.

I too live in a state without vehicle emissions testing of any kind. Actually there are no state vehicle inspections at all since '98.

This thread sums up how I feel about removing emissions equipment, Emissions.

Since its TPI and all computer controlled, will it act up if I leave the emissions stuff off? Can this be corrected somehow?
The only problem would be if you removed the whole EGR system. The EGR can be disabled by reprogramming your PROM.
