mileage question
Ok, I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I'd like to ask anyway. I have a new 350 crate engine installed in my 1984 Bird with the TH700-R4. So far everything is new (carb, tune-up parts, etc.) and it has about 700-750 miles on it so far. It runs great, no complaints at all. I know it's not totally broken in with this little amount of mileage, but I was wondering what mileage/MPG you guys are seeing with similar combinations. So far I am getting about 17-17.5 MPG with very conservative driving habits. It may increase with some more break-in miles, but I was wondering if that was about what you were experiencing with yours. MANY thanks for any insights.

PS - I did richen up the mixture by changing out the rods on my Edelbrock carb as the plugs looked VERY VERY clean and I was afraid of running too lean. The plug color is a light tan color with no real deposit build-up. Seems to be about right for the mixture. The rods I installed moved it 2 steps richer on my 1406 Edelbrock carb from the factory setting. I also swapped in one size larger jets into the secondaries at the same time. Since I am VERY conservative on acceleration, etc. I'm not sure that the secondaries are much of a contributor to the mileage equation. Thought I'd mention it just in case it might shed some light on the situation.

I'd say that number is pretty much on for your setup with the carb. I am running EFI and getting 16 with conservative driving, but I need a tune up.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I'm not doing too bad afterall. Anyone else with this kind of setup getting similar results or better?
