help with daily 350

Well its getting close to motor swap time in my car. This is my daily driver. Summer, spring, winter, fall. I will be doing a carb'd non emissions legal swap. I need help on a build here. I have $2,000 to spend on this build (exclude the tranny, I have a built 700R4 with a shift kit). Now what 350 should I be looking for, and what would be smart to do with this motor? I want a nice, solid, and most powerful 350 I can get with my budget. Thanks guys.

Re: help with daily 350

Same as we tell everyone else. A good used Vortec 350, an intake, headers, maybe upgrade the cam and valvetrain.
$400-$700 plus shipping if you can't find one locally, should get you a good used '96-up Vortec 350 truck longblock with heads and some kind of a guarantee. 30 days, maybe.
Or the same money would get you an older 350 shortblock and a new pair of Vortec heads. This, however, doesn't get you the roller lifters.
These Vortec 350 engines typically don't have any measureable bore wear at 100,000 miles, the only thing to beware of is if the engine ever had a coolant leak to the point of overheating bad enough to cracking the heads, on the deck surface, between the center 2 chambers, either side or both sides.

So a vortec longblock would be the way to go. Cams are where I am lost at. I want real nice lopey idle. I think I will be doing hooker headers, and a flowmaster 80 series cat back unless you guys tell me otherwise.

http://www.compperformancegroupstore..._Code=THMSBCOE

it will require you to change valvesprings, at a minimum.

I have heard a lot of bad things about the thumpr series. I heard they can even decrease performance just to give a rough idle. I want a nice choppy idle, and a great performance boost also of course.
