Mystery Exhaust valve part
What are those plastic cup things that go over the valve stem and under the spring called?, I only see them on the exhaust valves and I lost one in the process of redoing my heads, so I was wondering what they are called so I could get a replacement and what do they do and are they necessary?

Re: Mystery Exhaust valve part
called valve stem seals , umbrella seals is the most common name . they are cheap , available at any parts store . they keep oil from migrating down valve stem to combustion chamber . they prevent puff of smoke on start-up . i like to put them on all valves , they are cheap , over kill some may say . doesn't hurt anything . good luck .
