Hi All,
Its me again with more questions( this has been a learning experience)
As you all know I replaced the stock carb and intake.I had wrote a message about the Holly carb not pumping(thanks for all who replied).I have since taken it off and put my Quadrajet back on.Now,my temp gauge isnt working.It was working when I had originally put the Edelbrock carb on( a few days ago)
and now the gauge doesnt move.Checked for voltage(had around 9 vdc)
I have noticed that when I take it off my RPM'S climb? Bad temp sending unit?
Cant really say yes due to the fact it was working a few days ago.My car has the cccarb on it.1983 z-28 305 engine.

If you replaced the intake that had the gauge working for the one that was on the car before then the sending unit may be bad if the unit in the aftermarket intake is the same swap them out and see if everything is ok .

The gauge worked with the intake i just put on.i just had a different carb on it.

Are you running the stock intake or aftermarket ?

i am running the aftermarket intake.this was on when i had the edelbrock carb installed.the gauge worked.the only thing i did was change carbs.

correct me if i am wrong,but i would have to change dist's if i want to use that edelbrock..correct? since my dist doesnt have the mechanical vacumn advance.

Yes it or the Holly you need a vacuum advance distributor and is the sending unit for the gauge or the computer because if it is for the computer it may be telling the computer to change the air/fuel mixture when you unplug it so thats why it goes up in rpms .

Hmmm..well i am using the stock carb(Quadrajet).Is it becauseI have changed the stock intake is why the gauge isnt working properly?

Okay..1 last question.I have noticed that when i first start the car in the morning it turns pretty fast.After I drive it for awhile and try to restart it,the car has a hard time turning back over again.Is my starter getting tired or is it something else.

The starter may be getting old but it sounds like you may be getting starter heat soak .

Can u explain starter heat soak? how can i eliminate this problem?

Where is the gauge stuck at the top or the bottom?

The sensor for the temp gauge isn't on the intake manifold it is on the drivers side head between spark plug 1 and 3. Make sure the green wire with the flat connector is slid over the tip of the sensor correctly.

Did you top off your coolant and also change your oil after the intake swap? If you haven't you should asap.

The gauge is stuck at the bottom.i did reconnect the connection u spoke of.i havent gotten the oil changed yet due to the car isnt running right yet.after i drive it for a few mins,it wont start back up(heat soak maybe as u spoke of) or just a tired starter.

The starter gets hot from the engine and exhaust so you would need a starter heat sheald .

Sometimes thats what it takes .

Check coolant level and also if the thermostat is stuck open it will almost always read coolest with a clutch fan or elec fan wired "always on".

i understand.its just that it was working prior to me switching out carbs.thats the weird part.oh boy

May just be something electrical .
