Could not remove o2 sensor

Could not remove o2 sensor
I couldn't turn the o2 sensor when I tried to remove it. I had the special socket, and a breaker bar, but it would not turn. I could have used a piece of pipe as leverage, but I didn't want to apply too much force until I asked someone who knows what their doing.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
hey try soaking it for two days with wd40. and use the cheater pipe with the breakerbar, and special socket, turn counter clockwise. hard. i didnt have that issue but that just what i would do..

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
I thought of using a cheater beater pipe as I was giving it a shot, but I just had that gut feeling that something will break. Looking at the new sensor I didn't see what would break, but I just had that familiar gut feeling.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
maybe try heating up the car and try it with the breaker bar. but only turn it a mm after you get it just loose. otherwise the air will go into the ehaust pipe and warp the hot valves..but using a propane torch those little cans they use for copper sweating. those work.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
Actually the engine was sorta warm. On my first attempt I burned the top side of my hand. I went inside and had something cold to drink, and attempted it 10 min. later. It wouldn't budge. That's when I thought of the cheater pipe, but didn't have the nerve to try it till I had some more info. Maybe it was too cool by then. Did you say a propane torch is a good way to apply heat? I have an oxy acetelene torch, but that might be over kill.

maybe even a little jet butane torch the lighter kinda for ciggs. try soaking it and after a while wipe excess wb 40 and heat it up. but make sure the wb40 fumes evaporate first. and get it hot, then try it other wise propane torch or your torch, its just propane is one part easy and simple to control down to candle flame to a big jet flame.

I had the same problem on mine using WD40. My friend told me to try this stuff and it worked sooo much better. Spray on and let it soak in. Then try again to break free. This product should be on most of the automotive supply shelves. Good luck.

PB Blaster is great.
If you want to step up to a higher class - get Kroil.
PB Blaster kicks the crap outta WD-40

You could also heat up the bung and then immediately shoot it with wd-40 or pb blaster. This allows for the cold liquid to quickly cool hot metal breaking the rust seal.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
Isn't it dangerous to spray on a hot surface?
I have the same problem and tried everything from Decaltou penetrating oil over breaker bar to heating it up till it looks red. Nothing works and right now I'm kinda ready to bring in the big hammer.
BTW, over here we don't have the penetrating oils mentioned above.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
I use PB almost everyday. Anytime I think a fastener may give me trouble, I soak it before hand with PB. I also use oxy/aceteline to heat stubborn parts and have sprayed PB even on red hot parts. Not sure how effective this really is though. I think it works best just applied to cool parts and allowed to soak. Still though, havent started any fires I didnt mean to start in 30 years. Sorry they dont have PB in Belguim. They must have some brand of penetrant though. I have had to cut out and replace bungs before when 02 sensors have galled into place. I usually get out even the toughest ones with heat and brute force. When penetrant and brute force wont cut it.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
i wouldnt spray anything on hot partss, i've seen metal crack after welding, just from a slight breeze. and water or liquids 10/1 thermal cooling to air, id imagine theres there is the chance of exhaust manifold cast cracking. But i do recommend pb blaster even if you got to order it from the states. its up there with best rust stuck thread remover.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
Thanks for the replys.
Did some search on the forum here and apperently it's necessary to soak it with penetrating oil for a couple of nights. So I'll try that.
The exhaust pipe is of the car and on the workbench.
The most known make of penetrating oil here is "Decaltou" (and of course WD40). You guys don't know this brand I suppose?
@ Stevolwevol : How did it work out?

Form the left hand steering, and opposite sides of the road. From the accents of english, to the imperial gallons and standard inches, from euros to dollars and coffee to tea. A very different world over here.

I'm not english in fact it's only the third language we learn in school. I really learned it from tv and music so probably i'll have a mix of english and amercian accent.
Btw, we drive on the right side and don't drink tea but coffee (and lots of beer)

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
A $5 plumbers torch can be mighty helpful, prop it up so the flame tip is on the metal just out the bung, n just watch n wait several mins, then in a loud meaning full maner say "By the power of greyskull" and wrench the sucker lose, and go quick so it can't cool.
Side Effects:
You may also turn into a blonde goddas with big muscle, but it will pass.

Re: Could not remove o2 sensor
I finally got it loose.
I every now and then sprayed some penetrating oil on it for a couple of days. Then I heated it up till it looked yellow and even orange and gave the sucker everything I got in me.
Thanks for the replys. This forum is awesome. Again one step closer to bringing a thirdgen on the road in Belgium.
@Gumby : I didn't so much turn into a blond goddas, but more into a red tomato. But the yelling helped though
