Ignition Problem????
I have been fighting with 2 quarks with my car since i got it. Have posted numerous times about these problems and no one seems to know whats wrong. After lots of thinking, searching, talking to people and through process of elimination, i think it has to be an ignition problem. Im hoping someone can reinforce what im thinking seein as im new to these computer controlled cars.
My car has what seems to be no power down low (and from what im told these cars are torque monsters from a very low rpm)
No matter what i do if i floor it from a start i CAN NOT spin the tires (350TPI, 3.27 posi, auto). I have read posts where people can spin like crazy with a 305, 2.77 so somethings wrong.
Also going around a turn the engine labors untill i give it a little more to make the trans downshift.
So im thinking an ignition problem (Im really thinkining knock sensor as it feels like its a timing problem). Am i right in thinking that?
I'm going to replace:
Cap
Rotor
Plugs
Wires
Ignition Module
Knock Sensor
Any other ideas?
Also i have driven it like this for about 700 miles, did i do damage to the car driving it like this?
Thanks

Re: Ignition Problem????
Definitely not the knock sensor, maybe a bad pickup coil or EST problem. What's the timing? Does it move with RPM? Fuel pressure? Does it run smoothly? Check engine light working and off? How many miles? Have you done a compression test? What's the history? Is it any better if you unplug the MAF (forcing open loop)?
Is the pickup coil the same thing as the ignition module?
Not sure on the timing, how do i check if it moves with RPM?
It runs smoothly, as far as the RPM's are stable. Except for one time when i was on an incline (pointing down) for about 15 seconds the car surged and then went back to normal, but that only happened that once.
CEL is working, and is off. I had a problem where the MAF code kept comming up, but that has been fixed.
76K Miles
Have not done a compression test.
I will have to try it with the MAF unplugged, but im pretty sure the MAF isnt the problem since its new as well as the relays are new, and the code doesnt show up anymore.
Thanks.
