Skipwhite has good deals on GM Bowtie blocks pn 10051183 with "full" machine work. I picked one up and I am now looking at my options. They will bore and hone the block to the desired dimmensions and then ship it to me.
I have read that a 4" Crank will nearly drop in on this block, minimal clearancing required. Is this true? If so I will pick up a 4" Crankshaft and make a 427 via a 4.125" bore.
Whats the max Stroke on this block without tons of clearancing?
The price difference in parts between a 447ci motor and 427 is minimal, so if it can fit a 4.125" crank than I might as well just go that route.

I built a 395 from a chevy 350 block. I had the block bored 30 over and purchased a Callies Dragon Slayer crank with a stroke of 3.875". The bottom of the bores had to be clearanced, as well as, the oil pan surface. I would think that your block would have to be clearance well pass what I needed at the block-oil pan interface.

This is not a normal 350 block, it comes with more clearance from the factory than 400 blocks.
The block is supposedly already clearanced for long stroke cranks, but it does not say how long of a stroke. Upon further investigation from other sources, 4" crank will be no issues, maybe a little tiny bit of grinding at the oil pan rails as long as I used connecting rods that have already been clearanced for stroker motors.
It looks that if I want to go 4.125" stroke crank I will need a block with a raised cam height, which is big bucks. I will just stick with the 427, i could go 434 but i want to leave the cylinder walls thicker for some twin turbo action. And 427 just sound alot better.
I order the block with 4.125" bores with a finish hone for plasma rings and splayed 4 bolt mains for $1600, That should be a pretty bulletproof block.
