Ok, im lookin into buying a 89 z28 from a guy here locally. The only thing wrong with the car is that the guy says it needs a crank, he says it runs but it sounds really bad.

How hard is it to replace a crank? I would assume some difficulty but i got some time b4 the track opens around here and this would give me a project to work on

It's not that simple that block will have to be completely reworked. You may be better off buying a rebuilt short block.

How would he know if the crank needs to be replaced just by sound?
If it's a good deal, buy it. At least you'll get a car out of it and you can build the engine the way that you want.

Yeah I think Im jus gonna buy it and then jus get another short block, cuz its really a nice lookin car. The only thing reallhy visually it needs is some interior work but thats it.

I agree with the comments above. If this guy is not asking too much for the car, then buy it, expecting that you will have to put a new short block into it. I dont see how a person can tell that thee crank is bad by the sound of it. Very likely, there is something else wrong with the engine. Also, as staed above, you just dont replace a crank. There is alot more work to be done.
