Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

Well Im at the last straw with my 91 camaro. Its a 305 TBI, and after a month of sitting has been giving me problems. The car ran for ten minutes fine, then my rpms were jumping form high to low when I came to stop. My car died after that luckily I was near a mechanic friend.

Wehn we got it to his house we looked under the hood. He claims that one of the injectors is bad, or the injectors may be putting in too much fuel. When both injectors are plugged in the car chokes and dies, but when we unplug one of the injectors it idles fine. We couldn't understand why the car is choking out with both injectors in.

He told me injectors are expensive and I should look at buying a new throttle body or convert to carb.

Any thoughts on my situation? This is a at home mechanic and he's more into japanese makes. I thought i'd get a second opinion from you guys.

Im planning on selling this car and it'd be great if I can get it running soon.

Thanks

Re: Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

Does it happen when a particular injector is disconnected or either? Have you tested your fuel pressure? Injectors are expensive but going to a carb isnt exactly cheap either and I cant see how a whole throttle body would make it cheaper unless he was talking about used. Personally ide just fix the problem youll be alot happier in the long run in my oppinion.

Re: Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

It happens when either of the two are disconnected. I haven't tested the fuel pressure either. The car ran fine until I cleaned up the engine bay. All I used was simple green sprayed in the rag and cleaned around the engine valve covers. I covered the alternator and tb snorkel with rags. After everything was dry and done the car wouldnt start. I let the car sit for four days and it started up fine.

But now it wont run right. I must've done something during the cleaning process unless its a coincidence.

Im sorry if I confused you at all, but I thought I'd give some background to what happened.

Thanks

Re: Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

check the vacume line to the MAP sensor-it may have
gotten disconnected during the cleaning.
any major sensor problems should light the CEL and set
a code-is the CEL (AKA "service engine soon"light)
working?
I really doubt there is a problem with the injectors
unless they spray with the plug disconnected.

Re: Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

Im still learning the layout of the engine bay, but where is the MAP sensor? Theres a pipe running from the passenger side valve cover and its shaped like an "L" and connects to the throttle body pod, and its pretty loose at the base and where it connects to the pod. It sometimes pops off the pod too. Is this the vacume line you're refering to?

My car starts inconsistently. When I get it to run normal the engine light is off, but when I turn the car off and back on the light will come on and the engine will start acting up again. Im hoping its just something thats loose as I really need to get it running for school

Thanks for the help. I cant imagine that I did anything to mess with the injectors

Re: Need urgent help - problem with fuel injectors

Have you tried pulling the codes for the check engine light? That may reveal whats up.
