Installing a new gas tank - Questions
I removed my old tank to install a new fuel pump when I found that the previous owner cut the filler neck in half and put it back together with a rubber hose. Decided to just replace the tank with a new one with the filler neck intact. Now.
Due to some other projects, the exhaust was already off as was the torque arm. I removed the two cross braces and heat shields...but I can't get the new tank in place. The only thing holding up the rear end right now are the shocks, do I need to disconnect those to get the rear end to drop enough to get the tank in place? Can't seem to get the filler neck up where it goes with the way everything is now.

When I replaced my tank I dropped exhaust, rearend, and heatshields. I had someone hold it up while I bolted up the gas tank bands. The filler neck also caused me some troubles, I finally got it to slide into place. Did you happen to order this from Advance auto or autozone?

AutoZone, yes. Someone special ordered it a while ago and never picked it up, so I got it at a deep discount. Do they not fit as well as they should?

Re: Installing a new gas tank - Questions
Well I ordered mine at advanced auto and it is most likely the same brand. My filler neck looked as if it was welded on backwards. Instead of waiting another week to get a fuel tank I decided to bend the tube myself. I ended up using some spacers to make it so the filler neck wouldn't bounce up and down and break off. I will try to remember to take a picture of it this weekend when I go to the garage.

Also remove the brake line T thats bolted the the rear end housing for extra length.
