383 build q's
ok so im stuck. i sold off both of my camaros almost 2 years ago and ive been itching for another really bad so im currently trying to sell my bike to make room. ive decided i want to do a 383 stroker but i have no f'ing clue where to start at all ive read probably 150 build threads over the past few days and i am completely overwhelmed with info right now. my brain is having a hard time processing it all. all i want is to build a bad *** street machine most likely carb'd as im an idiot when it come to any type of fuel injection.
i want to go 383 with a manual trans im looking for a reliable 450 hp as i will drive the car daily can anyone help? where do i start any 350's better than others to use as a base? what rotating assembly would be best for a d/d? what pistons/rods/heads etc?

'96-up Vortec 350, cast steel stroker crank, stock rods, 12cc dished hypereutectic pistons, moly rings, balanced, Comp 230 / 236 - 110, 510 / 540 cam, RPM AirGap, Hedman 1.625" long-tubes, Demon 750 carb. 449 HP @ 5400 RPM, 486 TQ @ 4200 RPM, over 430 TQ by 2500 RPM. No porting required, but not remotely legal as far as emissions go. And forget MPG, this won't see 20.

A DD car making 450-ish HP should have forged pistons and forged rods with good ARP bolts in my opinion. You don't need a forged crank unless you really plan to spin it high, but definitely get one that's decent regardless. Hell, you don't even need a forged crank in most street/strip applications if your goals aren't crazy. What to get is completely up to you. If I were building it, I'd keep the compression around 10:1 (or so) and have a somewhat healthy cam to bleed off all the pressure so you can run pump gas without doing overwhelming amounts of tuning to keep it happy.
Do your research on how all this stuff works first. Don't just go asking people "what they have" or you'll be disappointed when you finally drop all your money on parts.

Actually what Atilla posted would be a great budget build and get near his power goals. Id like to see abit more work done to the heads but stock vortecs can make well over 400 hp. I also like 6" rods but not needed.
If i am not mistaken 96 up motors should have powdered metal rods like lt motors and zz crates. Those are plenty strong for that power. Forged is overkill imo.
