Can you have to big of a fuel pump.
As the title says, can you have to big of a fuel pump?
The current pump is shot, and needs to be replaced. I understand that adding a larger pump without front end mods will not help anything. But will it actual hurt? Such as would the increased fuel pressure on the backend result in the engine running to rich, or is the engine able to regulate the extra pressure of the larger fuel pump? Would it mess up the stock injectors? etc. etc
The current pump is dead, and I do plan on doing some things with the car later this year, so installing a bigger/better pump is worth the investment to me. Assuming it would not have some negative effect on the car, in the meantime.

Re: Can you have to big of a fuel pump.
Fuel pressure and fuel flow (volume) are not the same thing.
That being said a larger pump has the potential to flow more fuel.. but it does not need more pressure to do it.
Since we have a return line on our system any fuel not used simply returns back to the tank.
Raising fuel pressure does not increase fuel flow... pressure is simply the force that the fuel is being delivered at.. it has nothing to do with volume...
A fuel line that can flow 50 GPH @ 7 psi.. will provide the same amount of fuel as a
a line with 50 GPH @ 14 psi..
The real problem is your can't a expect a larger pump to flow more fuel thru the same size fuel lines as the stock pump.
if you increase the size of the pump... you have to increase the size of the lines accordingly depending on the volume fuel required.
