OPTIMA YELLOWTOP fit into a 1992 Camaro Z28?
I am looking to upgrade from the Optima D34/78 RedTop to D34/78 Yellow Top. It appears that the length of the YellowTop is slightly TOO LONG for the stock battery. It appears that the indent where the battery box is the only thing stopping it..
Has anyone been able to fit this into the stock battery box buy some type of modification but WITHOUT any cutting... I'm thinking of removing the bottom limitation by putting a rectangle slab of something so it allows the battery to sit on TOP of this limitation.. However if I did that, I don't know how to clamp the battery down as the clamp I would think would no longer work?
RedTop: 6.81" W x 9.38" L x 7.75" H
YellowTop: 6.94" W x 10.06" L x 7.88" H
I have a dashcam 2CH and an alarm.. And I find the RedTop is being drained too much.. I've been told to change to YellowTop..

Yes it will fit. I had a '91 RS and the yellow Optima fit with no problem. The only problem I had was that I wasted my money on the Optima battery. They are not as good as they were a few years ago. Try an Odessy battery at Batterymart.com. They cost about the same and last longer. Better quality and made in the U.S.A.. I have one in my '99 SS Camaro and '08 Vette.

I'm a little confused because when I looked at the redtop inside my factory battery box (Which is indented), there was hardly any room lengthwise so I can't see how the Yellowtop could fit length wise without being on TOP of the indent which I would think would stop the clamps from working as it would mean the battery would be sitting ABOVE the battery box surface with a small between... ?

Optima's are complete garbage now. They fired all the talent, cheapened them up as much as possible, and sent production to mexico. They are riding out the good name for as much profit as possible. I've seen many last only a year or two. Get a battery from Odyssey (Enersys). The Odyssey batteries are amazing. I've seen their race batteries (tiny) be drained completely dead 50+ times, sit for months completely dead, etc. And come back every time. I dare say you nearly can't kill one in my experience.

To be honest with you I don't remember if the battery tray had to be modified so the Optima would fit. BTW it only lasted about 2 years. Check out Odessy Extreme batteries. I did a lot of research on getting the best batteries for my Camaro SS and Vette.

Yeah Johnson Controls killed the batteries when they bought Optima, garbage now. I don't have any experience with Odyssey, but I like East Penn still made in the USA as far as I know. Deka is an East Penn brand
