iirc you can remove it from under the car. There is also a o2 sensor socket if you can get a wrench in there.
What's funny is you chimed in on a thread i had for the Code 44 in 8/2018... I have both special O2 sensor sockets, tried them on a breaker bar... on my main car it wouldn't budge period. Even w/ car at temp, even after PB Blast'ed for days. So I put the new O2 back in the box and shelved it. That experience intimidated me...

Yea, I took it to a Monro... They couldn't get it either. Maybe this car will be different?

Re: Idle Troubleshooting - Slow & Surging Idle

I am going to try grounding the O2 connector and see if CL operation happens, before I do...Service Manual States: In ALDL Mode (Also Called 10K Mode) all obtainable data is readable. Also states in ALDL Mode as well as Field Service Mode (Diagnostic Terminal grounded w/ engine running)" Closed Loop Timers" are bypassed. Just looked at an earlier datalog and it shows closed loop op...

- Does this mean that with my ALDL Cable connected and in 10K mode that closed loop operation doesn't happen?

Re: Idle Troubleshooting - Slow & Surging Idle

Grounding the o2 signal wire won’t do anything. The o2 doesn’t start to swing until it reaches 5-600f. In some of your logs it was going into closed loop but once in closed loop it was staying towards the lean side and wasn’t very active. This is a different car the torque on the sensor and amount of rust on the threads are different.

Re: Idle Troubleshooting - Slow & Surging Idle

After a good day of fishing, I got in 2 great logs. The 10K resistor mode has an impact, cl timer bypassed = cl disabled. I disabled 10K mode and noticed closed loop op flash. O2 just might be dead. I watched the data as coolant temp reached 50C/122F and boom closed loop. However, a split second later open loop.

since timing isn’t bouncing around with the est disconnected I wouldn’t think it’s a chain issue.
UPDATE: Went back to set base timing to the 0* spec and I happened to notice a freaking bounce. w/ the EST disconnected it would hold at 0* for a second or three and then bounce up like 2*-4* for a split second then back to 0* and repeat...

Re: Idle Troubleshooting - Slow & Surging Idle

A loose timing chain will cause erratic timing.

Will erratic timing cause issues w/ map voltage and vac at idle? Sounds like it all plays a role in the combustion process.

Re: Idle Troubleshooting - Slow & Surging Idle

I’m not sure if the timing change would cause the code 33.
