Fuel pump is howling?!?

My fuel pump howling (like a wolf). It used to only howl when I was low on gas. It now has over half a tank and is howling like crazy, at idle and when driving.

So whats this sound like? Bad fuel pump *eek*?

Slow '91,

As long as the fuel pressure and flow are adequate, I wouldn't sweat it. I had a pump in a Fiero that barked at me for almost six years, and I only replaced it because an accident had jarred it off its mounting base. It still held pressure and flow up to that point, noise and all.

Yes, it came from the factory with NO clamps on the fuel lines!

Does the fullness of the moon have any effect on the howling?

Vader make a good point, but I think I would take the noise as a pump having the courtesy to warn you that it is dying instead of stranding you in the middle of nowhere with no warning. You might want to snag an aftermarket spare for it and keep it handy. This should guarantee the one in there now lasts forever :-).
