Got it handed to me

by a Nissan 240SX, not once but twice. First time, got revved up to about 1500 rpm, let the brake go and the gas pedal down and started going sideways in the road and had to let off or otherwise go in the ditch, damn near took out the flagman. Second time got no rpm's up, put shifter in 2nd and punched it, spun a little, was neck and neck for a while, then he started pulling until he had about a car to a car and a half lead on me. Really really sucked. He had a 5 spd and intake, that's it. But, we're going at it again tonight, if he shows. I gutted my airbox last night, so that hopefully will help and i'm gonna uncap it this time (had the cut out capped up) and i'm gonna put it in first this time and ease into the throttle off the line. Maybe let a lil air outta the tires. There was condensation/dew on the road, that may have hindered me as well, plus my brakes are really screwy and one of my calipers was locked up (brake lines are bad I think), it was pulling to the left really bad, damn near made my friend puke from the smell. I dunno if that was hindering me or not either. Anyways, wish me luck.

No offense, but there seemed to be a lot of excuses on why you lost! I'm not trying to start something but skip the excuses and race him again with the cut out open!

Well the stock US 240sx motor is actually pretty slow. Its a KA motor that can also be found in Nissan trucks. I dont know the exact ratings but its well under 200hp. You should have killed him. So here's the question, did you hear a turbo when you were racing?? There are two ways to make a KA motor fast, number one is a KA turbo kit. The other (better way) is with a Japan motor SR20DET swap. If he did the KA turbo kit, he'll be in the mid to high 13's. If he did the SR20DET, then he should be running high 12's, low 13's with alot of potential for more power. It would also depend on which SR20DET he used.

First off, i'm not trying to make excuses. A race is a race IMO. If it was raining and I lost, then tough, I lost. I'm not trying to make excuses. But, it had been a warm day and there was alot of condensation on the road, there were 15 people there and they all noticed it. The guy in the 240 is a friend of mine and he even noticed it too. But, I said to them, oh well, no excuses, he won fair and square. No, he's just got an intake as far as I know. It's a 5 speed. Thats it from what he told me, whether thats true, I dunno. I thought they were slow too, as did he. Everyone expected me to wipe up the floor with him and were all kinda shocked to see him win, even my friend that drove the 240 said i'd probably put football fields on him. If I had a way to put the vids on my puter and then upload them i'd let you all watch. I'm embaressed, but what can I do? He won fair and square, whether I had traction issues or he had more power or was a better driver or I shifted too early or whatever. Does nobody think dew on the road and/or my caliper(s) locking up hindered me? I'm really not trying to make excuses, i'm the last to do something like that. I'm just trying to tell about a race and ask opinions on what to do when we race again.

he was just trying to explain the things that screwed him up. I do that too, even if i win, cuz a hinderance is a hinderance... so ya. Tough luck on that, everyonce in awhile we all get one of those shameful races. Heck i lost to a buick something or other, nothing fast a friggin 4 cyl tbi. i screwed up the race myself... i started gaining on him, but there was no space left. I lost to a someting or other, and there were lots of witnesses.
tho, i at least redeemed myself beating his 305 tbi; with my 2.8l back when i still had it, on the freeway(he crashed his buick and bought a camaro, kinda wanted to be like me so he got a thirdgen as well) with my 2.8l back when i still had it on the freeway
so dun worry, next time hopefully the race will be better.

Get some traction and you'll violate him with a hole shot that'll take him a 1/2 mile to catch up.

It's cool. I'm not mad at anyone's remarks. I'm mad I lost and shouldn't have, but hey, all I can do is re-race him and make sure he knows what IROC tail lights look like this time.

I change my oil every 2000 miles with Mobile 1. Has new plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, new o2 sensor, new pcv valve, rear tires are damn near new (lotsa tread left) and I just gutted my airbox after the race, so she runs great as far as I know. No codes or nothing being thrown. I think that I covered most of the stuff for a tune up in the past 2 years. Dunno why I lost, but I did, nothing I can do but hurry up and go to the track, make a few runs stock, then get all my susp/chassis stuff put on and hope that makes a difference. It better or i'll be really disheartend about this car and all the stuff I got lying in the basement waiting to be installed and on order.

You sure it's a 240sx and not a 300zx? The 240 is a toilet. There are some people making them go with turbo kits. An intake shouldn't make that car alot quicker, because they don't have any power to begin with.

Judging by car-stats it should be a mid to low 16 second car, and maybe 15s if he is a very good driver. You should have taken him!

CrazyHawaiian right about the 240SX. The US's equivelent of Japan's Nissan Silvia S13-15s, which could take on any IROC, GTA, or TA, but the US model is slow.

That guy would have had to do a lot of work on that KA motor because I don't think the guy would have done the SR20DET engine swap, but I could be wrong because I would have figured you would have won. The 240SX also about 600lbs lighter than your car, so that could be another factor.

Bad times

My friend had one and it was a 5-speed, I smoked him in my old 92 Dodge Dakota. They arnt all that fast. A brake stuck on can slow ya down pretty good. If it was the 300ZX then that would explain it pretty much.

Get him next time

hey don't go too far against 240's. my bro's got one and that thing has a 7000 rpm redline with a ka24de engine. that thing has some torque and in a race between my bro and my dad in a 94 bmw 325i my bro killed him. they went up to about 100 mph. it's a 2.4 liter engine and I've driven it and I respect that car.
