this guy has challenged me(will i win)

I have a 1986 Trans Am, a guy, names derrick, with a 1997 Chevy Blazer w/Vortec v6 has challenged me. His car is completely stock but he does have a pretty heavy stereo setup. I say I will spank his ***, what do you say?

Specs on my car, stock engine and assembly, I got a full edelbrok cat back system, Accel HEI high output distributor, and other small mods.

When I’m done whooping his *** by half of Jax raceway I think I’ll ask him "who’s yo daddy." Should I?

give me the advice,
shane

oh yeah he wants to put $100 bucks down on his stock blazer beating me

I think you should beat him. I think the v6 blazers run 17's or something like that. I've ridden in one and they are definitely faster than a stock v6 F-body.

What do you mean he wont break 11s. my car cant go no 11s. But his speedo maxes out at 100MPH so i can surely beat his *** in a 1/4 mile right? I mean mine maxes out at 140MPH

wait its gonna be my first time at jax racemways, forgot they only have 1.8 mile so ya know

YEs learn now that speedo has NOTHING to do with 1/4 mile performance. My neon maxes at 120, that does not mean it is fast. However, I think you should be able to beat the pants off of this kid. Ill go with you by about 3-4 car lengths.

my point was that most fast cars reach 100 and something beofre the end of their 1/4 mile. If they cant go faster then obviously its pretty slow.

my speedometer goes to 85, but that doesn't mean i can't accelerate past that point... speedometer means nothing.. and you car will not trap near 100 mph in the 1/4

This may sound dumb...but search his motor high and low for a nitrous kit the day you race him. What motor is in your car?

but yeah $200 bucks sounds good, i'll be $200 richer, and he wont be able to talk shizzle anymore. I hate it when people act like their shizzle is sooo good but in reality its not. People always try to bring down my car.

Checked the scehdule, its gonna most likely be on sunday around noon. Dont know where, there is an old abandoned air field on the north side we can goto.

What is this guy smoking?? They put out 190hp/250ft-lbs of torque. You've got the same/more horsepower, more torque by like 40-50 ft-lbs, and his Blazer weighs in around 3900 pounds, several hundred more than yours. There is no way in hell if your car is running anywhere near right that he will even be anywhere near close to you if he really is stock. My brother's girlfriend has a 97ish blazer with that same vortec v6 and it is an absolute turd.

Not knowing the guy though, it sure makes me suspect he is suckering you the way he is so willing to bet a bunch of money, and wants collateral and crap. That seems really fishy, he's either playing you or he's a total fool who has no idea about cars at all...

You're going to absolutely bus-length the stupid fool if you launch even remotely decently and he's not hiding some serious mods or NO2...

ummmmmm...... small stuff, like k&m filter, no cold air yet, uh....... all i use are sythetic oils in the car, nothing but synthetic oil(may be expensive but will lengthen the longetivity of the engine)..... uh, new fuel pump(dont know if it will help).... uh .... no ac, gonna take off smog pump belt before race(i love the v-belt system).... uh...

he is really stupid guys. He is one of the guys if you might haveread my toher thread threatening to key my car, spray paint it.... all kinds of shizzle. If i win i'll get my respect and he'll be put in his place. i need this ****ing win. I need it.

As soon as i'm done i'm gonna go up to him and say "whos yo daddy now?" He'll be soo pissed, but hes wone of those ******* who want their car to be a low rider.

Hes gonan loose soo fn bad that i just wanna slap him once i'm done for being so fn stupid.

well i got stock 190HP hes got stock 190HP. Those vortec V-6s were pretty powerful except in the torque area. I just think he has a pretty low rear end ration. Maybe something like 2.53 or something, that way it can pull stuff with the low amount of power.

what the hell, the firebird/camaro is classified as a 3 door, no 4 door no 2 door. The third door is technically the hatch.

I think it'll be a lot closer than everyone thinks. Its only 2-300 lbs. more than an F-Body. Power is almost identical, if not better in the V6. Better gearing also.

Both are mid-high 16 sec. But since its a 1/8 mile race, it'll be real close.

I say its a toss up.

Both are mid-high 16 sec. But since its a 1/8 mile race, it'll be real close.

I say its a toss up.
The horsepower is close, but 40 more ft-lbs and 2-300 pounds lighter makes it a night and day difference...

Even a peanut cammed 305 TPI can do alot better than a mid-high 16, unlike the Blazer...

I did some hunting for performance numbers, and found a few back issues of Motortrend and Road & Track with the performance test result charts in the back. R&T had results for a 96 Blazer at a 9.0 0-60, and a 16.9 1/4 mile. There is no way even a dead stock 86 305 TPI (running anywhere near right) does anywhere near that bad... The TA oughta be able to hit high 15s/16.0ish at worst with 0-60 much faster than 9.0. The TA also has a catback and a few piddly tweaks. That is going to put the Blazer like 10 car lengths back in a 1/4 race...

Heck even bone stock 305 TBI cars have put in better times than that quite often...

But I'm still concerned with him setting you up and pulling a fast one for some cash... I also don't know how well your car is tuned, etc so I personally would be hesitant to bet, but on paper, both cars running right his Blazer stock will see nothing but taillights getting farther and farther away...

You're also forgetting power curve goes to the V6. Makes more power longer. And torque numbers aren't that far apart either. What was 86? 270-280? 0-60 might be .5 sec better in the F-Body but it'd still be a close race. Those tweaks probably would put it back to where it would have run in 86. Have to remember we're talking 18 years old stuff now.

As for the times, check what they got back in 86 also. Motor Trend was high 16's. I remember the detuned ports of 86 and thinking what a big let down from the 85's.

guys sorry for the let-down but the race has been postponed.

One- becuase i need to practice my launching
two-i'm dead broke right now
three-i'm gonna get me a few small mods first
four-when this is all done i'll kick his ***

three entitles a few very small mods, like the throttle body air foil, headers, functional ram air hood, runners.

If you guys can suggest any other small mods, less that $200 each tlelme but thats all i'm gonna do before my full engine swap. I can use all these things when i replace the engine and that why i'm doing them.

did anyone think to ask if it was 4x4 or not. if it is, and its an eigth mile, he may romp u. plus, the way this guy sounds he has something up his sleeve. Its not too hard to hide nitrous.

we have a blazer in our area with just exhaust going high nines in the eigth. in 4 wheel

Why not just race him for bragging rights. From the sound of it, it sounds like it might be a good race. Since..well you dont know who might be the winner. Also by not racing because you dont know if you will win, isnt really sportsmen like.

I race bikes more than cars, so i dont know much about the car scene...yet.
