Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
What kind of Audi TT? 1.8?
What type cam do you have?
Need a little more info....
It'd be a good race, you could win, that car does have a posi, if he gets you off the line, you could have a rough ride, LOL...

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
I am not sure what kind of TT it is. The owner doesn't know much about cars. He was trying to tell me it was a V5. He is pretty retarded. I am not sure what camshaft is in my car as it was put in by the previous owner. It isn't a very wild one it is just a nice mild cam from GM. I know for a fact the camshaft is a GM part. I for sure don't have a posi.

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
could get pretty hard for you posi-less to hook up with crappy tires + stock&worn suspension in the back..
even with all PU bushings and some upgrades like panhard and lca+lcarbs i still don't get a lot of traction with my formula.. (posi-less as well )
imho will be a hard race and will all depend on your launch.

If he has the 6 it's turbo'd, you're done. If it's the 4 then you have a chance. I wonder what kind of boost he is running.

The V6 cars (therte was no V6 turbo) are cruisers, probably in the mid 14's.
The turbo cars can be very quick stock - the new 265hp 2.0L turbo runs in the mid 13's at 104mph and can be boosted even higher for only a fre $.

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
That would be a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder. V5 is the Audi name for it's HO Turboed engines. My girl has an A4 Quatro (awd) w/a 1.8 Turbo. Big plastic engine cover on top, says V5 on it. The car you want to race redlines @6800rpm, it ain't no slouch!

What year was it? I had an '03 Audi A4 1.8T with a 5-speed and it wasn't all that quick. The N/A V6 from the same year was faster!

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
1.8T are very slow was factory, but once u start modding them it makes a big differnce, all they need is a chipped ECU to pick up tons of HP.
and depends if its a quattaro or not.

Yes mine was Quattro. Car was stock, but had no real power to it. Never spent any money to make it faster though.

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
Well, y'know there is power then there is real power, when I said ' no slouch' I meant it in comparison to a stocker 3rd gen w/ a couple of bolt ons. I had a 305 w/ a 454 lift cam, exhaust and a chip. It ran good, but was slow and heavy, now my car is still heavy but at least it's fast enough to get me in the 12's. All I know is her car revs hard, if I keep it up in it's narrow power band it's a good little runner.

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
Think about it, it's not size but power and weight. The Audi stock makes 180HP at 7600 rpm, I was wrong when I wrote 6800rpm earlier. I just checked out the specs. the car weighs in at 3100Lbs. Give or take a couple of options, add in a larger Turbo, possibly a chip??? In order to run right. The Audi could be making200-225Hp easy, maybe more? Possibly All Wheel Drive on top of that.
Now take a stock 305 or 350, making 200-245 Hp weighing in around 35-3600lbs. If the car has SFC's it weighs more, if it's tired or not tuned proper it makes less power than that. You have to remember, our cars are old and were built when smog regs were heavy and technology was not up to speed w/those regs. The Audi is based on technology developed 10 yrs after, the Camaro. Hey Nobody can say for sure who is gonna win or lose? But The numbers and age factor aren't helping the Camaro. Engine size doesn't mean that much nowadays. Unless we are talking high performance engines which we are not.
Look at how much power the Subaru WRX, or STi's are making, I think it's around 275HP in stock form, then look at a 07 Mustang GT, with a V-8 only making 300-325 HP stock, it's a heavy car vs. lighter car kind of thing. I hope this makes some sense to you???

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
Get whatever you can afford! It takes alot of upgrades, Tranny, rearend, ignition, intake, exhaust, etc. to keep up w/ the 383. Put together a plan, you may want to do upgrades first, so you can put the motor in and relax? Just make a plan and stick w/it. It takes time, $, and patience. But just make sure you have fun with it along the way! I drive my car daily when the weather permits, it's all about havin fun with it,,,,....

Re: Audi TT vs. Camaro 350
it's decent, certainly makes power, but you could do better for your money, being in CA you have to worry 'bout emissions. Blueprint makes some good engines for the $, look them up, also you may want to see a local builder? that's what I did and saved alot. Talk to people on this board from your area and see who they use. Research is the key! I personally would stay away from Hypertuetic pistons, they do not handle heat well. some people like'em. If you are gonna spend the $ go w/ a forged bottom end, get some good heads and cam combo and put it together or have someone figure it out for you locally, you'll save money and be able to spend it in other areas. You can find alot of good used and new parts on the classified boards on this site, use it to your advantage....
