Natural selection interrupted once again. Why do we save people like this? You know they breed, right?

I'm more surprised that the state cop was going the speed limit then anything else in this video.

Re: Cruiser cam catches 100 mph crash (1985 Pontiac Firebird)

This is the quote at this time. They may update it later:

Police said Brennan was alert and conscious after the crash and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight where he was last listed in critical condition.

"He is very lucky to still be alive at this point," said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Marty Fellure. "You can see behind me the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed, he's a very fortunate man right now."

Car? Where?

Looks like it may have burned too, besides having the roof cut off. Saw this earlier today, if it was relatively stock I pinned it as an 85 as well.

Re: Cruiser cam catches 100 mph crash (1985 Pontiac Firebird)

Just maybe his throttle got stuck on the floor and his brakes went out while rushing to a house fire, we could be a bit harsh here.

But since it happened at 7am he was probably late and rushing to work. Been there done that, I'm sure we all have, just didn't go over board like this guy.

I'm guessing there was much less traction on the side of the road then he thought.

This is why I hate "the news" and don't have TV. Here we are all making assumptions about this guy when all we have is a video of his car exploding in super slow-mo.

Now what if this guy had a seizure at the wheel and we're all poking fun?

Re: Cruiser cam catches 100 mph crash (1985 Pontiac Firebird)

I live in Dayton, and I heard about this today. It happened around 7 in the morning. Word is the kid was passing cars in traffic going about 100, but what caused him to get off onto the median was someone changing lanes without signaling, causing him to swerve and get out into the median. I have no idea if that's true or not, as it's based on comments on local news stories, but I do hope the kid makes it.

Also, there are photos of the aftermath of the crash here: http://projects.daytondailynews.com/...l/082310crash/

It's pretty horrifying. The front of the car ended up on the northbound side of the road, and the rear half on the southbound side, over a hundred yards down the road.

That is ridiculous. Very few cars would give you the opportunity to fight for your life after an accident like this. I NEVER would have thought a 3rd gen was one of them.

no sure which way you are going with this, but 3rd gens are pretty tough cars and can take a hit. there have been many threads and pics/stories here on tgo over the years.

but i think this one takes the cake.

Oh yeah, they are relatively tough, but they are still a flimsy unibody sports car. I've seen plenty of them wrecked and feel safe in mine, no question about that. But no vehicle is designed to take a direct T bone by a concrete overpass 20 feet in the air at 100mph, let alone an F body.

That was brutal. If this kid was in a hurry and made a mistake, hope A LOT of people take a hard look at what can happen with a fast car and lack of skills to handle that speed (read:teenagers lol).

If it happened because of, like mentioned above, a stuck accelerator or perhaps a seizure or something of that nature...well, maybe we all should think before we post something ill willed...I should have

Passing cop at 100mph? Drives off road and hits bridge? Looks like attempted suicide to me.

I am very offended by this comment. im 17 and have never been pulled over once nor have i been in any accidents( close call in the winter one time though). Im just messing with you though, i dont blame you for having that outlook, im one of the only kids in my class without any tickets, and alot of the other kids get pretty reckless with their vehicles, they think going 105 down a gravel road is something to brag about

I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away.............

Ok, that's it! I will never listen to R Kelly again while driving the Z!

In all seriousness though, he is lucky to be alive. On a good note though, he most likely didn't have a seizure since the police said he was concious and alert after the accident. Its doubtful that a crash like that would "knock" someone out of a seizure. Since the new rumor is that he swerved to miss a car that was changing lanes without signaling seems more likely Im going to toss this one up to Bad Judgement. Hopefully he survives but never get his license back.

Anybody think that this might've been a suicide attempt? I mean think about it, in the video, you did NOT see the car's brake lights on or the driver making any attempt to avoid that barrier that got him airborne. Granted, it all happened very fast but I think we would've seen something. Or maybe he was on something:
