Survey, of sorts- Transmission parts...

Who requires transmission parts periodically (auto mainly) and has found they either can't buy them or have to go to GM or a rebuild shop and pay exhorbitant prices for parts?

I'm talking about everything from overhaul kits to shift kits, to even just solenoids, seals and such.

And then the question- if you could get these parts for like 25 to 50% off the price as that of GM or a rebuilder- how long would you be willing to wait to receive the parts?

This is just a concept at the moment- I personally am getting pretty PO'd at the "lockup" the rebuilders have on the parts supply in Canada at the moment (trans parts distributors won't talk to anyone but rebuilders- and the UAP's/NAPAs of the world don't want to have to deal in piles of $5, $10 seals and such).

Actually, I'm talking about parts themselves-not rebuild work.

Car: 84 Trans Am
Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
touch wood so far i have never had to replace anything but a torque convertor seal and change the fliud and filter. i got those parts at CT without issue, but i had no choice of brands. the filter kit was Pro King Transmisson or nothhing. i dont now whether they are good or not.

i picked up the basic stage 2 B&M shift kit two years ago at Westside performance....i know the B&M things sucks, but it was 65 bucks.

i have heard horror stories of people not being able to get parts and then when they do find them they are worth more than the car. i dont want that to happen to me, so yes i would be interested in a discount (i want a full trans go rebuild kit for my tranny), even if i had to wait.
