Good/honesty Transmission Work?

Looking for a good/honest Transmission shop to recommend to my buddy for his (Dare I say) Mustang (97 Cobra SVT)....something is really messed in the tranny.

Suggestions where you guys have had any sort of work in the GTA?

Dave

Automatics Plus in Richmond Hill. Jim is a great guy and builds good stuff. I have a 700 that he built for me 8 years ago thats still tight and firm as day one. I originally ran it for a couple saesons in my iroc after blowing up two others and when I swapped the t56 in I put it in my daily driver truck where it has seen no mercy towing and pounding and its workin mint with lots of miles.

Driveline on Midwest in Scarborough.

Talk to Dave.

Does regular rebuilds and performance stuff.

Even came and picked up my flywheel for resurfacing and brought it back to me. Won't find many places do things like that.

Haha yeah but i tow a 20' float behind it regularly and a 24' travel trailer and my boat too. The most amazing thing is I dont even have an extra tranny cooler just the stock rad one. I am pretty surprised its still ticking. He does ALL the plow trucks in the area to give you an idea. No one is harder on there trannies than plow guys except maybe me .

Crow Transmission. He is located on Oakville/Mississauga border. Awesome work, VERY honest, and cheapest prices. I know for the trannioes ive got done, i never had a problem, he always fixed more than he had to , and everyone was surprised at his price., Ive recommended all my friends to him and they end up doing the say. Theres even another tranny shop not far from him, who sends their customers cars to him, as a subcontract and just charges the customers WAY more.

i.e. Got my 700 R4 rebuilt, with a shift kit and corvette servos and convertor for $700 with 1 year warranty.

My buddy took his IROC (Same tranny) to the shop down the road and paid $1200. We later found out Crow actually rebuilt it for them

Yeah man that kinda thing happens all the time. Most small shops do that daily. I know the garage I used to work at did it all the time but in fairness that place was honest and straight up. I couldn't believe the bills some of the customers got but at least the work was top notch.

I've dealt with a guy in Mississauga (near the airport) a couple of times now and been impressed. In my previous experiences with transmission shops- any car that comes in is an excuse for a complete rebuild. This guy actually finds out what the problem is/isn't and tells you- billing you for what needs doing- not just rebuilding everything in site. I've also had him do a couple of re- and re- jobs for which he billed me fairly as judged by a time guide- not the "I think we'll charge $xxx.xx for that job today, because I feel like it" I've gotten at other shops in the past.

In any event- my idea is that when you find an honest shop- stick with them.

If you want to try this one out, they're called "Precision Transmission" and it's on Torbram Road slightly north of Derry Road.

ive delt with mr transmission in sauga and well, i think they are dicks. they said i had a 1 yr warranty on all parts and labour. which was good. cause well 3 months later trany broke again. they said it was the shifting cable that needed to be replaced so that was done, and other parts were switched aswell. so over the past yr ive been back a few times, and they guy that worked on my car gave me attitude everytime i brought it in. So ive learned not to go there anymore and i think i might try that guy flying low recommends next time. but i think after 4 tries i think they finally got it right.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys....I appreciate it!

I passed this along to my buddy....what he does with them who knows. But regardless this will probably be useful if I decide to rebuild/build up my 700r4 a bit or stick with my original "plans" to swap in a manual.

Thanks guys!
Dave

The last time I tried to make an appointment at Mr. Tranny in Mississauga the guy behind the counter told me they were busy and to come back in a few days three times over two weeks. No writing down a date, just "come back some other time". In the end I figured to hell with that and fixed it myself (it was only the gasket between my tranny and t-case on the Jimmy).

I had my tranny completely rebuilt & a tranny cooler installed by Redline Automotive. They do the work in house, it's actually a Firestone dealer, located on Sheppard just east of McCowan.
In fact everything that's been done to my, Z, has been done there.
Eric's the man to talk to over there, he's the owner and a performance guru.
