I was very fortunate in finding this car. The previous owner deserves the praise he put it on jackstands in a heated garage 9 months of the year since new. The interior is just as clean it is bright red inside.

It was in great shape when I bought it but I wanted more so I spent the last 8 months restoring it. Minor parts here and there, new power window switches, replaced a few dash vents, rebuilt the driver seat cushion, new tires, aluminum driveshaft, brake pads, polyurethane swaybar bushings, new door locks, door handles, serviced the power windows and guides and so on...

When I had the driver seat cushion rebuilt I pulled the interior and shampooed it, etc that was good for a few bucks in found coins

Its a great hobby car.

things are on the up and up, although we're in a big legal mess at the moment (my dad was the passenger).

Heh... abuse a car and it pays you back rightly so hah... I know it too well.

I'm all fourth gen camaro at the moment... mmm ls1 goodness...

it was practically a deal too good to be true, 98 ls1 + m6 + hardtop + leather + power windows, mirrors, drivers seat, 74K, garage stored for winters, driven by a gm dealer that babied the car, and fully stock for $12,000... stock dyno at 315ft/lb 298HP at the wheels on a hot day...

If I won the lotto I'd get a heated barn and start buying cars to fill it with. That would be a riot. But I am married with kids mortgaged to the hilt so am grateful for my aged IROC

Last May I checked on build numbers for '90 5.7 hardtops it took a while to find the figures but I think there under 500 made in total. Guess I should have kept the details. But it is definitely a rare car.

I wonder why the guy painted your car Richard ? You can see it under the hood . But that new colour sure does pop ! I like it alot .

I wondered if it was as well (a repaint)? But this IROC is original color. No repaint. I've stripped the interior and inspected inside the door panels as well. Had a good long look under the dash when I replaced the power brake booster. Still no repaint. Pulled the trunk panels and cleaned up alot of dust still no evidence of repaint. Removed the tail lights and door sills looked for overspray. Pulled the speedo and looked for tinkering -- no evidence to be found.

If you recall at one point I thought my rare find 5.7 was actually a 305 ?? ... thats when I did most of this stuff.

The nose has been repaired though. I found lotsa evidence of a crackup on the right side but it ends at the header so they did a decent job on it. Maybe thats what you saw?

I saw close to the hood struts up by the air intake for the heater ( I think thats what that was ) It's a different red .

But man I really like the red you have now better !!!!!! I was never a red guy really . But yours is .... you just gotta see it . Can;t really describe. It's kinda like this guys ..... it really pops out at ya .

no sweat. GM calls the color "blazing red" for obvious reasons.

The interior is also "blazing red" after you get used to it its not so bad. Not sure if the pic does it justice?

Yes I have neglected my car and am paying hard for it.. but nice to see the old gang is still around... The miniram is on the car but not running yet.. well it did idle but that was it.. As for Acceld having a cooler ride than mine... anyone car buy a Grand National WANNABE... But a Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser is in a class all of its own... Blow up the pic Acceld and you will see the message I left for you sitting in my ride..

I am doing good, especially since my seperation 2 years ago. We picked up the car in Cambridge about 1 1/2 years ago. I was totally thrilled when I learned that it was a 350 L98. Pretty rare car in deed. 1440 made and only 247 came to Canada. It was produced in the fall of 1989, as were all the GTA's for that year. I just wish I knew the break down as to how many actually came with the L98...the only ones I have seen have been 305's. As for mods, I want to upgrade the exhaust and maybe an upgraded chip. Shift kit too, but other than that I think I will leave it pretty much stock. I still have my 87 TA to play with, so I will save the major mods for that....I hope...lol

A Turbo-T? Gimme a break they are fast even when idling...

If I get 13s after my mods I'll be happy enough. But I am building with different goals in mind... 1.0 lateral-g, 60-0 in under 110 feet, 0-60 in 5, 25+mpg, emissions legal and great street manners. All on a budget of course

Johny and I are building our project car with lateral g's in mind also. How are we going to verify our progress. Will we have a skid pad day as well as a dyno day???

dunno?

I figured I'd work it out (measuring progress) after I did the upgrade to springs, tires and shocks already did the sway bar bushings. I was going to do the front control arm bushings when I did the brake upgrade.

Anyway, we could use a parking lot as a skidpad what about those G-tecs don't they measure lateral as well?

I read an article about a 92 RS that had 275's on it and the whole eibach kit and koni shocks andit was lowered with soft rubber . It only made somewhere around .95.

It will be a challenge Dan -- and I am not saying I'll get there its just a goal. If I try for 1.0 and get .96 thats not so bad eh?

Tuning suspension is not something I know alot about so I figure its as good a time as any to learn. Should be fun.

I would have said it better if I pointed out that I want to improve my handling substantially in the 30-100mph range. I am willing to do adj shocks and springs. I have already done the sway bar bushings and have z-rated rubber.

Prokit, Koni Yellows, Spohn LCAs, Relocation Brackets and SFCs, BMR Adj. Panhard, GW Steering Brace, SLP Hawk Rims, KDW 275/40/17s front and back, Poly Bushings, 32/21 sway bars

This sticks pretty good - no idea what it would do on a skid pad though. Rear shocks are on full soft and usually I put about 1.5 turns on the front. Stiffer springs works better with smaller bars so I've kept the stock 32/21 set.

There's a skid pad at Mosport but I don't know what the deal is with it - they'd probably have all that g-tech stuff.

A G-tech will measure lateral acceleration.

And some shocks, springs, bushings and the regular suspension mods and driving skill should get you very close if not to 1G.
You will 100% hit 1G with a set of RA1's in with all of that.

What do you mean by putting 1.5 turns on the front. If you are talking about weight jacks I thought they only controlled the amount of weight on each spring. And that putting a turn on a weight jack did not have any affect on spring rate?

I think George is talking about adjusting his struts and shocks. The Konis are double adjustable if I recall correctly.

Mine are single adjustable but Koni does make double adjustables.

Half a turn on the front is quite noticable.

Koni shocks are harsh even on full soft so you have to watch out for holes in the road all the time; particularly around Toronto where the roads are schit - might get old real fast on a daily driver.

One of the books I have or had on handling gives you the formula for calculating g force based on the weight of the car the diameter of the circle you are following on the skid pad and the time it takes to do a lap of the circle. All we need is a flat chunk of parking lot that we can chalk out a circle on and get dizzy.

Might need more than a chalk mark

I was at an autocross where someone tried to chalk out the apexes - once you get in the car it's pretty hard to see stuff like that - I think trying to follow a chalked circle might slow you down and reduce any g force values that might be calculated.

If we got enough people together though some of them could stand around the edge of the cicle sort of like cones..lol

Wow...that is a blast from the past...I remember jumping out of the way of the coolant 2 weeks after major surgery on my leg wondering If I ruptured anything...lol.....regardless good times that day (even with the blown line)

Ahh yes those are some great pics... Dcz28 how is your ride? Gotta tell me how that Supercharger is working out for ya...
And James you Armenian Bast**d nice to see you are still around... I would be in for a track BBQ.. even if my ride is still not running by then.. I will bring the Land cruiser it should be good for about 40sec 1/4 mile time...

the supercharger is not on the car right now, i went ahead and installed an aftermarket T56 6spd and some other little things. The s\charger will be on as soon as i get an aftermarket ECU, FAST, BIG STUFF or DFI not sure yet. What seems to be the issue with your car?? Well i hope there is a meet this year so we can catch up
